(6,916 posts)Let's get DJT and the traitors and plutocrats in the GOP out.
Then we can work on discussing Ms. Winner's penalty. I suspect she'll serve about a year total.
She made some mistakes-- should have redacted a lot more before sending to the media. But it seems she's in the Ellsberg class of patriotic Americans concerned about what the public knows. Civil disobedience like that can carry some penalty.

(290 posts)I think she should go for straight jury nullification, followed by throwing herself on the mercy of a sentencing recommendation.

(61,033 posts)Greenwald is still the same a-hole and user he's always been.
Snowden, stranded in Russia while Greenwald parlayed his leaks to a media empire, knows and now Winner knows.
What's he gonna try to get out of exposing Winner?

(423 posts)Greenwald didn't even say it. He retweeted someone who did. I may not like the guy for his actions but I won't play that game where we put words in his mouth, okay?
And this isn't even a slam. If someone steals docs from an agency, that person is a criminal and the DOJ will investigate them no matter who the president is.

(78 posts)You suggested that every possible DOJ would have prosecuted Winner. But you failed to state whether all DOJ's would have engaged in a "war on leaks".
Greenwald obviously had a negative opinion on Obama's hypothetical reaction to this leak. You can pretend that Greenwald's view of Obama was neutral, but nobody in this thread had so far echoed your benign view of Obama - hater Glenn Greenwald.
Secondly, Greenwald has often reacted to Trump's screwups with an "Obama sucks" type of comment.
Thirdly, you pretend that Greenwald gets a pass because this was a retweet rather than an original tweet.
Nobody here would say that Greenwald retweeted that tweet because he disagreed with it.

(290 posts)There's a reason that the Sessions DOJ is pursuing this leaker, and not Snowden.

(423 posts)I'm doing no such thing. I'm saying that if you're gonna accuse someone of something then they should have actually DONE IT. That's not a fucking pass. It's putting the responsibility for a statement where it belongs.

(15,522 posts)isn't putting words in their mouth. It's not like there's a random generator logarithm at work, here. Re-tweets are a choice. Why do you think that choice isn't worthy of commentary or criticism?

(6,324 posts)Of course.
I don't see how that's a slam.
Since this report originated under the Obama administration and Obama and his people elected to not make it public when they announced sanctions on Russia for doing what the report details obviously they felt it needed to be kept classified.

(2,897 posts)Any DOJ would have arrested Winner for this and I say that as someone who can't stand Glenn Greenwald.
The original tweeter, Brad Heath, seems to be an even tempered guy. He tweets about court cases and things concerning the misdeeds and general craziness of the Trump administration. I doubt this was a slam on Obama. If anything, this was a rebuff to the whole "Trump is finally going to war w/ leakers" hysteria that erupted as soon as the arrest was announced. This , as pointed out by Heath, is just business as usual for DoJs.

(78 posts)journalists who share Greenwald's Russophilia?
SaschaHM
(2,897 posts)had a mixed record on leakers/whistleblowers when refer to current events for comparison? Greenwald is shit, but just because he "retweets" something doesn't automatically invalidate the original point of the tweet, no matter how Greenwald tries to portray it.
You're seeing red because something showed up on Greenwald's page.

(36,437 posts)What does that tell you about Glenn Greenwald?
RUSSIAN AGENT.
DeltaLitProf
(881 posts). . . someone at Greenwald's site, The Intercept, voluntarily provided the document to the government. Surely it's possible to confirm the truth of the document without showing it to the government.
Greenwald and crew behaved as rank amateurs with material their source entrusted to them. They bungled their responsibility to protect her. If I were a whistleblower, I'd NEVER EVER trust Greenwald with my information.
And given Greenwald's propensity to protect Putin, he'd have every motivation to out a source leaking classified info about Russia's misbehavior.
