Strong approval of Trump is fading across a number of demographics
By Philip Bump June 7 at 5:19 PM
FiveThirtyEights Nate Silver noticed something interesting in approval-rating polling for President Trump. While support for Trump has remained consistently high among Republicans and Trumps base of non-college-educated white voters, the percentage of those who support Trump strongly has faded. In other words, while Trump voters still like him, fewer of them love him, which could indicate political storm clouds on the horizon.
A poll released by Quinnipiac University on Wednesday allows us to validate Silvers observation. If you look at the trend in Quinnipiacs polling since January, strong approval of the presidents job performance has faded in a number of constituencies including Republicans and whites without college degrees.

Its rare that opinions of people flip 180 degrees in politics. For example, when people are changing their minds about who theyll vote for, theres often a way-station at undecided before their candidate choice flips. Similarly, people are less likely to go from strong approval of what Trumps doing to outright rejection of it; instead, their approval would likely fade a bit first.
By the same token, if people are turning against Trump, that would suggest that those who viewed his job performance skeptically in the first place might come to strong disapproval of him.
That trend appears, too.

That strong & united message should be positive, but the (good) negative part tie Trump & Rep brand

(1,706 posts)1. Sounds like it would be a great time for
Democrats to step in with a united front and strong message.
I don't see that happening, though

Aside from the (important) positive messaging needed (future jobs looking forward at new tech, not back) would be a consistent effort to tie the brands irrevocably together of the Republican President Trump and the Republican Party. Also including Pence, Ryan, and McCONnell.
