(4,858 posts)...once upon a time, he was a genuinely interesting figure on the American scene. His 2000 campaign had a touch of sanity about it, at least for the GOP, and had he somehow won the nomination, I would have at least considered voting for him before casting it--inevitably--for Gore. The last GOP candidate I considered doing that for was Ford in 1976. Then the Bush crew essentially tamed him, and by 2008 he was just another Republican. And by God--Palin! So yes, I'm a little sad today. But only a little...

(14,565 posts)Circa early 2000s. Desperately attempted to attach the bill to totally unrelated legislation in the closing minutes of one session after another. This went on for a few years. Fortunately Harry Reid was always lurking in the shadows, stepping in to thwart McCain. Often McCain was stunned that Reid was still on the premises.
So I've always detested John McCain. No sympathy today. Comey tried to give him a hint time after time, that maybe he should pause and rethink the situation.
