When The Economy Collapsed In 2008 And Obama Was Elected Republicans Did All They Could

To "make Obama fail". And I will never forgive them for their treasonous actions.

I own my own business, and did not make enough money to cover expenses during the recession. Every day I went farther into debt, and the entire Republican Party was doing all they could to make sure the economy didn't get any better, so we could blame Obama. From voting lock step against the stimulus to opposing every measure Obama put forth that could possibly create jobs.

I will never forgive them. When America was going into depression, they were simply trying to make it worse.

I hate Republicans. I hate all Republicans. At work and with my family we "just don't talk politics". My family knows how I feel, and know they can't take me on. My brother in law in "Eastern Washington" told me that "conservatives are worried about the national debt". I told him the wealthy have 50 trillion in the tax havens and if they paid taxes like regular people we could pay off our national debt. That was the end of that.

Name one thing Republicans did to help Obama create jobs I ask them.

Silence.

Point made.

Every single Republican is a traitor, and I treat them like traitors when I get the chance.

2. Yep - Dubya skedaddled out of Washington as fast as possible

Obama had to deal with the huge financial fuck-up even before he was inaugurated. The whole disaster unfolded immediately after Obama won the election. Then he spent his first 6 months in office straightening out the mess the GOP left him.

I don't think any of us will forget that, as much as the Republicans would like us to. Obama was basically a hero, even though some mistakes were made. He certainly made a very fine choice in asking Hillary to be his Secretary of State.

Whoever is the NEXT President will be called upon again to save us from disaster. You can be sure of that!

Got Amurka's attention.

I hate repukes with every fiber of my being and I hate their privatized, profit-centered propaganda machine. I HATE the alternate reality they created where George Orwell's "1984" universal laws prevail. Lies are truth. Hate is Love. Compassion is Weakness. Corruption is Normal. Money is God.

Edit: Corporate "EDUARDO"? Whaaat? That's a prizewinning spell check fail, for sure. I typed Corporate Media.

36. Absolutely

and the pukes knew the collapse was coming but thought it would happen during the first six months of Obama's administration. Unfortunately for them, Mr. Market had other ideas. Too many shorts piling up.

So, if they'd had their druthers, not only would President Obama have had to clean up the mess, but it--at least the actual collapse, not all of the reasons for it--would have happened on his watch, too.

So, my point is...puke brainwashing depends on soundbites and short memories.

48. I have been thinking the same thing.

Our debt could be $25-$30 trillion easily. Obama had minimized the growth of the debt, Trump will cause it to explode.

The issue that I have is that the Democratic President will be cleaning up the mess under constant attack from republicans and the far left, one accusing that President of wild spending, the other enraged that he or she doesn't spend even more.

Yes, Democrats held 60 seats in the Senate, but 2 to 3 of those seats were marginal. We need to focus on getting 65-70 Senate seats like FDR had, then we can afford some defections.

I kinda think that many CONservatives (I've taken to calling them that because the Dems used to be the cons. So, it's the authoritarian mindset that sucks. Sorry, I digressed)...anyway, I kinda think many of them know deep down that the "news" they watch is questionable.

Have you ever noticed, many of them avoid admitting they watch Fux Spews? Or the other hate mediamouths.

Not all of them do that, of course, but I have actually seen it more than once. If they get uncomfortable when you ask if they watch Fux, or Limpbutt, you know they're feeling the cognitive dissonance.

They have betrayed the American people for partisan and personal gain at EVERY opportunity, and I wish them all to burn in the hottest fires of Hell. From opposing Social Security and Depression-era reforms in the 1930s, opposing civil rights efforts in the 1950s, 60s, 70s and today, to supporting trickle-down/piss-on economics to fatten the wealthy at the expense of the poor, to their support for wars in Vietnam and the Middle East that have bankrupted us, to their treatment of Obama and Hillary Clinton, to their treasonous recent efforts to undermine our democracy, they have ALWAYS been on the wrong side. And I wish them to feel the pain of those they have caused so much pain to. Look up 'Republican' in the dictionary, and it's between 'reptile' and 'repugnant'. I share your hatred of them.

14. Welcome, and nice post.

Every time we get to the point where we have programs that actually help you and I, some Republican comes along and tries to gut them on the basis that they create dependency.

But here's my deal: Like you, I pay taxes. I pay lots of taxes. And I want my tax money that I pay in to my government that is supposed to be a government of, by and for the people, to be used for stuff that makes my life easier and better. So...why is that wrong?

Because Republicans want to route our tax dollars to the military industrial complex, and at the same time 'help' big corporations with huge tax cuts.

So, we pay and they profit.

31. THIS! U.S. Media, by and large, take the, "if a tree falls in the woods with no one around,

does it make a sound?"

U.S. Media, by and large (except for some exceptions that are too few to make a diff), have abandoned their noble quest in being watchdogs against those in power.

Instead, they study up on buzzwords and how to frame a narrative to the benefit of the already obscenely wealthy, and slowly turn the tide, becoming complicit in turning the U.S. Gov't into one big plantation, millionaires and billionaires into plantation masters, and working Americans into slaves.

That was clearest in past presidential campaigning when they attacked Hillary Clinton on ZERO evidence, making her look corrupt and dishonest, while white-washing Trump, giving his hateful, racist campaign rallies full coverage while HRC gets a square down at the corner of the teevee. Newspapers, local and national, did the same.

This is why Trumputin is pResident of the U.S. today.

17. and Karl Rove had a huge role in turning blue states into red states; started with Texas

Last edited Tue Jun 13, 2017, 11:17 PM - Edit history (1)

How Texas Became a Red State - Karl Rove, the Architect
sam gwynne
Executive editor, Texas Monthly
read the full interview

snip...What did Karl Rove do to be the Karl Rove that we all talk about?

His Texas career per se started in '79 when he went to work for then-Gov. Bill Clements. This is an interesting moment, because Texas, if you look at Texas history, this place has been Democratic since the Civil War. The party of Lincoln was not the party that was popular anywhere in the South, including Texas. And so for all these years, you had Democratic dominance in the state of Texas.

In fact, when Karl first came to the state, and in 1977 or '78, of the statewide offices held, I think one of 29 was held by a Republican. Of the entire 181-member Texas House and Senate, only 21 seats were held by Republicans. You basically had a complete domination of the state by Democrats forever.

Complete, almost 100 percent needle swing to the Republicans. In the House and the Senate, from 21 out of 181 to now in the 110 range, something like that -- a complete shift. Eventually the congressional delegations, the senatorial, everything switched.

And this happened on Karl's shift, and he was involved in an enormous amount of it. If you look at the statewide races -- being the Senate race, governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, land commissioner, Supreme Court justices, all those folks -- he was involved in almost every single one of them. So in a way, you can see this great tectonic shift in American politics, and maybe the greatest of an age, because, taken as a region anyway, Texas with all of its electoral votes in effect swings entirely Republican over a period of 22 years, and one man is really at the core of it...

---------
to explain Dubya's rise to power, along with the huge shift from Democratic to Repug in all levels of government, from elections officials on up to the Presidency -- one has to look at Karl Rove to discover who is behind the dirty work

57. Maybe you're giving him too much credit

Karl Rove isn't that smart, but he is a devious, nasty character though.

LBJ was the guy who figured out that the South would turn into Republicans, after the 1964 Civil Rights Act was passed. Don't forget that Johnson himself came from Texas and he was a Texas Senator for a long time. Then he became Vice President for Kennedy.

LBJ was never a civil rights crusader, but he did take up Kennedy's mantle after the assassination and made sure Kennedy's laws went through. I'm talking about the Civil Rights Act that was promised when he got elected. Both Jack and Bobbie Kennedy wanted to be sure that promise was kept. (I don't believe LBJ was a racist but he was a realist.)

However Johnson felt that it would be the end of the Democratic Party in the southern states, and they slowly switched to the GOP in the following years. But it didn't happen overnight, so Karl Rove came in and took credit for it.

26. Speaking of National Debt, I've never heard the Republican Plan to pay off the Iraq War

debt they so enthusiastically piled up, outside the regular budget.

As we know the interest continues to grow and we not only have nothing to show for it, The Bush/Republican War has brought unceasing chaos to the whole Middle East.

30. And that's just the monetary end of it. Think of all the related costs-

maimed vets, PTSD vets, growth of ISIS, rebuilding countries only to have them torn down again-

And we wonder why some nations and their citizens hate the US so much.

55. Regardless of Cheney's wish/bluster, the Republicans are responsible for making sure the cost

of their/Bush's War is paid for.
When Cheney's plan didn't work out, what was/is Plan B for their debt?

They never refer to the cost of the Irag War and all the attendant expenses, as noted above- veterans' expenses, mental & physical, rebuilding countries, etc.

But I believe we need to bring it up again & again.
We just let them get away with it.
(Though I personally want civility and reasoned discourse, I do believe we Democrats are very often too nice and respectful.)

It is so painfully true, Repubs openly did all they could to harm President Obama and our country.
They have beaten us into submission. They will continue, with Vladimir's assistance, until rump is czar of a third world USA. A shadow of, what used to be, the land of opportunity, WE THE PEOPLE will be lost.
Unless we resist, unite, indict and persist. Thank you for your contribution. Against all enemies, foreign and domestic, we will defend the Constitution. Together, we will vote them out and bind up our wounds.

The one good thing republicans do for people is..........I can't think of any unless you are in the one percent or lucky sperm club. If you're into suicide, they tend to go up under republicans, wars increase, national debt goes through the roof because tax cuts are good for us. In general the elephant craps all over us and we are left to clean up their mess. Until we find a way to lock these psychopaths up and get them out of the USA will we ever have a functioning democracy again.

I think they will destroy their fucking party with Trumpcare and the gutting of Medicaid, meals on wheels, SSI and SNAP.

All the damn idiots that swallowed tRump's HUGE FUCKING LIES about protecting the working class are going to get a bitter lesson of how much the MF republicans care about them, their faithful voters!

45. Welcome, All In, and Great Post!

I say similar things every day. I Can't stand anyone that voted for a reTHUGliCON and have not spoken with or seen many of them after finding out how they felt during Bush the Stupid's reign and then especially after President Obama was elected it was like all gloves were off when it came to racism and hate towards Democrats.

I never disliked anyone or a group like I have the rethugs starting back in the 80's when I really started paying attention to politics after the shitty way Carter was treated.

I say life is too short to bother with anyone that want me, my wife or anyone I care about...DEAD!(via no health care)

So, to hell with them.

It's better for the blood pressure to vent and let them know how I feel when they think to talk to me about how good trCHUMP is doing and that he could do better if the Liberals would leave him alone.

It's also good to see a post where virtually no one jumped on you or anyone that agreed with you.

RESIST!

46. Agreed.

The GOP is trying their hardest to look the other way while trump destroys our democracy and relationships with our allies all for a little power that they have trouble even handling. The republicans have moved to the alternate reality world because the truth does not help them. The core base of the republicans are brainwashed by Fox News and other right wing media and the uneducated poor white class are all being used by the elite Americans that make billions of dollars off their work and they don't even realize it.

73. I can't believe the Rs are still getting away w/ the claim that

"conservatives are worried about the national debt." It's one of the RW's most blatant lies, yet between the morons & suckers who believe it and those who know its a humongous piles of BS but continue to peddle it, this repeatedly and clearly disproven whopper is still going strong.

The modern day Republican party is a wobbly house of marked cards, yet it continues to stand. Apparently we're going to need to do a helluva lot more huffing and puffing to blow that huckster hut down.

They are so thoroughly brainwashed to hate anyone who's not a fellow RWer, their only guiding principle seems to be blind rage against the "other." I see no point in trying to reason with unreasonable people. Call out their lies, yes, but don't expect enlightenment.

is that despite how obvious what you posted is, we sit were we are today.

With Rs in full control of DC, it isn't just about electing a disgusting ogre potus, it is that they suffered absolutely no consequences from the electorate for doing what you noted.

A repeated pattern that has existed for decades, republicans engage in partisan fuck wittery, and each incident gets worse in equal proportion for the lessening of consequences they suffer for it.

But the way the Rs have acted since Obama was elected and the way they elected Donald rather than admit he is a disaster and the way they want power over us rather than to govern with us - indicates to me it is much worse than that. It is different fundamental values and their values are the ones that stink.
