what the hell is going on in this country that the voters would elect such a morally corrupt person as our President. I mean we just came off of a criminal duo of 'the Dick' and 'W' then we had 8 years of an awesome President in President Obama and now we're back in the shadows of unlawful bullshit again. How the hell did this happen anyway?

This is all fall-out from the election of the first black President. They completely lost their minds and voted with blind rage to "erase" Obama from history, no matter what else this man would do. He represented (thanks to his TV experience) an "image" of bravado that they felt would help to do it.

This oft-shown pictures of all of the Presidents (like the one below) were pretty significant in a symbolic sense as to what they felt "was wrong" -

I didn't realize just how racist we as a country still were until President Obama. Awesome man with an awesome family and treated like shit. Best President in my lifetime, bar none. I'll go to my grave with a satisfied look on my face cause I realized what a good person he was and voted for him all three times I was given a choice to vote for him

My Grand Father who was a Georgia boy raised by a slave owning father joined the Union Army for the specific reason to free the slaves so I come about this feeling I have honestly. Shortly after joining he got pneumonia and was discharged and went back home and recuperated and three months then re-joined and was right back in the Union Army for the duration of the war. I'm proud of that heritage. One of his brothers, a great uncle I guess he would be, was a confederate soldier. I don't know anything about him other than what I just typed and don't really care too I guess

For my Grand father it can be said he had freed his slaves before the war began. Most stayed on with him and worked for whatever the wage was so that says a lot for him in the end as a person too.

My dad was the youngest of his family, born in 1897, so all the family papers were passed on down to him and we have them all now and thats how we know our past history.

Thankfully there were those who decided to "buck the trend" to make a better world.

One of my grandfathers was around your father's age (born 1899, but died a few years before I was born) and his father (who was born in upstate NY) in the 1850s had to go south in order to teach in a "colored school". It seemed counter-intuitive based on the prevailing thought about "north vs south" but then that is how twisted this country has been.

He was also approaching the age of eligibility for conscription to military service in the Imperial German Army. He quickly decided to emigrate to the United States, later saying, "I agreed with my mother that I should go to America."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Due to Elizabeth Sr.'s extreme homesickness, the family returned to Germany later that year.[3] 6 In Germany, Trump deposited into a bank his life’s savings of 80,000 marks, equivalent to $505,248 in 2016.
Soon after the family arrived in Germany, Bavarian authorities determined that Trump had emigrated from Germany to avoid his military-service obligations, and he was classified as a draft dodger.[3] 8 On December 24, 1904 the Department of Interior announced an investigation to expel Trump from Germany. Officially, they found that he had violated the Resolution of the Royal Ministry of the Interior number 9916, an 1886 law that punished emigration to North America to avoid military service with the loss of German citizenship.[3] 9 For several months, Trump petitioned the government to allow him to stay but he was unsuccessful.
Trump's grandfather also had an interesting career after he got tired of being a barber:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In 1891, Trump moved to Seattle, in the newly admitted U.S. state of Washington. With his life savings of several hundred dollars, he bought the Poodle Dog, which he renamed the Dairy Restaurant, and supplied it with new tables, chairs, and a range.[2] Located at 208 Washington Street, the Dairy Restaurant was in the middle of Seattle’s Red Light District; Washington Street was nicknamed "the Line" and included an assortment of saloons, casinos, and brothels. Blair, the biographer, called it "a hotbed of sex, booze, and money, [it] was the indisputable center of the action in Seattle."[3]:41 The restaurant served food and liquor and was advertised to include "Rooms for Ladies", a common euphemism for prostitution.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Trump#Immigration_to_the_United_States

In May 1898, Trump and Levin moved to Bennett, British Columbia, a town known for prospectors building boats in order to travel to Dawson. In Bennett, Trump and Levin opened the Arctic Restaurant and Hotel, which offered fine dining and lodging in a sea of tents.[3]:85[10] The Arctic was also originally housed in a tent, but demand for the hotel and restaurant grew until it occupied a two-story building.[3][10] When describing the Arctic in a letter to the Yukon Sun newspaper, [a journalist?] wrote:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
"For single men the Arctic has excellent accommodations as well as the best restaurant in Bennett, but I would not advise respectable women to go there to sleep as they are liable to hear that which would be repugnant to their feelings – and uttered, too, by the depraved of their own sex." (Gwenda Blair (2000). The Trumps: Three Generations That Built an Empire. Simon and Schuster.)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The Arctic House was one of the largest and most extravagant restaurants in that region of the Klondike, offering fresh fruit and ptarmigan in addition to the staple of horsemeat.[10] The Arctic was open 24 hours a day and advertised "Rooms for ladies", which included beds and scales for measuring gold dust. The local Canadian Mounties were known to tolerate vice so long as it was conducted discreetly.
