Let's see if ReTHUGs have a rethink.
Just remember Gabby Giffords, all those kids at Sandy Hook and many others.
That is all

(10,424 posts)when needed, wonder why?
there was an armed security detail there with Scalise, and it was probably one of them who killed the shooter, so, yeah. If not for them, probably people would have been injured or killed.

(14,274 posts)Yeah, I don't think so. And right now the rest of the R's are bragging that having guns (security detail) saved the day. "If Scalise hadn't been there...." Well, here is some speculation, maybe the shooter was looking for Scalise? How lucky would that make those who got shot?
That being said, I wish all those attacked and injured a speedy and full recovery.

One guy said he was 'blessed' not to be shot.
Well, shit.. how 'bout the guys who WERE shot? Does this mean they were NOT "blessed?"
What are they? The unwashed?
Makes one wonder, does it not?
And PS---- is it pronounced blessd, or BLESSid?

Tack on the # of people beat by #antifa, Kathy Griffin's photo with Trump's head, and Shakespeare in the Park assassinating Trump.
The right has called this incident the opening shots of Civil War Part 2.0.
Don't laugh. Don't rejoice. Don't snicker. Don't feel smug. The right is now feeling justified in using any level of violence.
If this is an #antifa related individual, it is going be really really nasty.

(12,047 posts)Congressman Details Hectic Moment Under Fire: We Were Sitting Ducks; Gun Saved Our Lives
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WWJ) A Michigan representative who survived a gun attack during a congressional baseball practice Wednesday morning in Virginia is detailing the harrowing moments the gunman opened fire.
Michigan Rep. Mike Bishop tells WWJ Newsradio 950 he was attending the practice around 5:30 a.m., just outside of Alexandria, when shots rang out. He said he and his colleagues were sitting ducks.
As we were standing here this morning, a gunman walked up to the fence line and just began to shoot. I was standing at home plate and he was in the third base line, Bishop said. He had a rifle that was clearly meant for the job of taking people out, multiple casualties, and he had several rounds and magazines that he kept unloading and reloading.
The shooting went on for roughly 10 minutes, with some accounts putting the number of shots fired around 100. Four people were injured, including two Capitol Hill police officers and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, of Louisiana. The suspect was also shot.
The only reason why any of us walked out of this thing, by the grace of God, one of the folks here had a weapon to fire back and give us a moment to find cover.
We were inside the backstop and if we didnt have that cover by a brave person who stood up and took a shot themselves, we would not have gotten out of there and every one of us would have been hit every single one of us, said Bishop. He was coming around the fence line and he was looking for all of us who had found cover in different spots. But if we didnt have return fire right there, he would have come up to each one of us and shot us point-blank.

(7,796 posts)They don't have security detail watching out for a handful of them. How many at baseball practice 12-20? How many kids in a typical school 1200+. According to reports 2 guard to cover what 20 congress members. That is one guard for 10 congressmen. The average school would need far more to offer then same protection.
As a gun owner. As an ex-military medic. As a hunter I believe there are too many guns in the hands of to many unqualified gun owners.
The NRA is only interested in keeping the money flowing to the gun manufactures so they in turn can finance political parties. I cancel my NRA membership after Columbine.

they're such hypocrites. everything i've read about the shooter says his politics were very close to my own. but i do not advocate violence under any circumstances and that is where we differ. too bad we live in a country where anyone can get a gun, walk around with it, and then just pull it out and start shooting whenever.

(6,666 posts)trained security personnel. That is NOT the same as arming every Tom, Dick, and Harry and letting them have at it in an active shooter situation.
So, the shooter was stopped by a gun IN THE HANDS OF A PROPERLY TRAINED (and licensed) PERSON. A big difference.
