The mainstream media is too busy with wall to wall coverage of the VA incident, not a word mentioned about the GUN VIOLENCE in San Francisco.

(146,324 posts)There has been news of the UPS shooting, however. It is not the top of the news, though, but it is still news. Every major news outlet is covering it. However, a Congressman being critically injured in a mass shooting is, quite naturally, a bigger story. It's a question of scale, really. The UPS shooting is not being ignored, as you can see from a Google News search.

(50,989 posts)And last I saw it was FOUR dead in San Francisco.
I'm thinking of the song lyrics "Four dead in Ohio." Remember when shooting deaths of four people was such a big deal there were ballads written about it? Now it happens three times of a morning.

(146,324 posts)As I said, a Congressman shot in a mass shooting will ALWAYS get more coverage. Still, the NYT has covered the UPS shooting, as well.
On DU, the Congressman got many more threads as well. It's the nature of things, really. The other shooting incident is not being ignored, though.

(63,221 posts)Those 3 dead UPS workers were just as important to the people who loved them as the congressman was to his family. The media attention this incident is getting is overkill. Nobody was killed. The shooter is dead. Enough already.

(19,868 posts)...a life is a life - congress person is not more important than UPS workers. Time to rip NRA of its power and put more gun controls in process. I'm not naive enough to believe the additional controls are a panacea for fixing the explosion of guns on our streets, but every little bit helps.

(81,417 posts)No one died at the baseball practice. And that's very good news.
But three people died in the San Francisco shooting! And there's been no coverage beyond a breaking news update.
I've had TV on in the background while I've been working. Haven't heard another word about it since the first (and, so far, only) breaking news update.

(3,194 posts)Like was said previously, DC is more newsworthy since it involves a Congressman.
San Fran was just your ordinary, everyday in America shooting. No need to really report or talk about it, because tomorrow will be another one, and it's certainly not going to have an impact on Guns in America.

(41,835 posts)"Liberals" being killed, despite the fact, we don't even know how they felt about politics. I bet FOX NEWS didn't cover it, unless to Cheer on the Killer.
