Santa Gunman Aziz Yazdanpanah Was Jealous Of Wife Fatemeh Rahmaty, Friend Says

The Texas man who allegedly dressed as Santa before killing six relatives on Christmas was jealous of his wife's success following their separation this year.

Aziz Yazdanpanah had been out of work for more than a decade when he murdered his wife, their two teenage children, his wife's sister, his brother-in-law, and his niece, before turning the gun on himself on Sunday, according to The Associated Press

A private burial was held Thursday for the victims of the massacre in Grapevine, a suburb of Dallas and Fort Worth, The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports

At a press conference later that day family friend Azar Shahbazi said that Yazdanpanah was jealous of his wife's success, the Associated Press reports.

It doesn't seem like he did anything "crazy" until this point.

3. His subjective "reasons" don't really have any public policy implication.

But his ability to act out his anger upon his family-- so unjustly and efficiently and with such extreme prejudice-- certainly does.

5. Another red herring. It came from the factory as a supposedly "good" or "morally neutral" product.

But empowered him to exterminate as a cruel holiday surprise.

7. It's Texas. The big rock candy mountain of guns and ammo.

All I meant by red herring is that his motivation or the exact route by which the gun found its way into his hand are equally irrelevant distractions from the core issue.
