Watch him drop to low 30's now. THIS is what his supporters care about.

(47,549 posts)Really.
That's it.
That's what we all need to remember. Even if they did turn against Shitgibbon, it would only be to embrace another wrong wing idiot. They will never vote Democratic and are quickly being taught not even to think of liberals as human by their handlers like Limpballs and The Coltergeist.

(491 posts)huge Majorities in 2006 and 2008? After 2008 there were more Dems in the house than Reps NOW. Those Dem voters from 2006 and 2008 haven't magically disappeared.

(128,846 posts)the SCOTUS threw out Section 4 of the VRA in 2013 (the list of states/counties/municipalities requiring "pre-clearance" by DOJ for changes in state voting requirements), which then invalidated Section 5 (the "pre-clearance" rules. The argument being that the list of states hadn't been updated in a long time and Congress needed to re-do it.
This then requires arguments for VRA violations strictly citing Section 2 (discrimination based on race, color, or language group), which is basically already a Constitutional Amendment (except for the language group part which seems to point to Hispanics who can be of any race), but only after the fact (once a change has already been made that might have a negative impact, vs stopping the egregious change before it happens). However if the plaintiff can prove that the locale had recent previous deliberate discrimination in voting rules changes, they might be able to invoke Section 3 to require a one-off pre-clearance.

(128,846 posts)And it has been a nightmare. However I know back when that happened, there was discussion on DU about it agreeing that the list really does need to be updated (but knowing this congress would never do it). And that's because although most of the pre-clearance locations were generally in the south, a whole pile need to be added for other parts of the country like here in PA and in OH.

(7,300 posts)They have been Diebolded, touch screened, gerrymandered, Voter ID'ed and voter roll purged and now Russian hacked and don't forger Kathleen Harrised. Also, 2006 and 2008 were brief rebounds from the minority attributable to Obama's popularity.

(22,356 posts)Spend enough on propaganda and you can convince people dog poop tastes good
Decades of brain washing them about the evil liberal boogyman combined with a dogma of defending their never ending stream of indefensible disasters had devolved them to having no thought other than giving the middle finger to the evil liberal.

(36,106 posts)I'm not convinced his most ardent supporters even voted. They're just happy to find themselves represented by someone with the same agenda - beating back 'liberals,' 'welfare queens,' 'foreigners,' etc
I suspect his voters are an entirely different matter. They probably expect him to deliver on his fake promises

(7,300 posts)Also in a very white, suburban part of an other wise diverse city, in N. Kansas City, Mo. Lots of living, breathing, walking but not thinking Shit Gibbon voters here and they are just like the ones you see saying stupid shit on TV. They may turn on this particular GOPee-er (Not likely) but never to a DemocRat!
Maybe your interactions with them have been different but the ones I USED to talk to respond to all criticism of Their Savior with "But Killary...!".

(9,527 posts)He got elected making promises he couldn't keep about jobs and bringing back manufacturing. Obama already brought manufacturing back (we're at all time high in terms of output), but that is done more and more by automation. The inability to fulfill that promise will have a negative impact on Trump's position.

(9,350 posts)Do you remember when, shortly after the election, Donald Trump announced that he had completed a deal with Carrier and its parent company to keep about 1,500 jobs from leaving the United States for Mexico? Although the idea that Carrier would be layoffing hundreds of people was being whispered for a few weeks it became official yesterday. Yesterday, Carrier announced it would be laying off the people who had supposedly kept their jobs due to Trump. It was also announced that the money the company had received in the deal to keep the jobs had been used to help automate the Indiana plant.

"Art of the bad deal"

(9,350 posts)From what I have heard and read this is standard operating procedure. The only difference with this case is that it is getting attention because Donald Trump made such a big deal about striking this deal that was supposed to prevent job lose. Companies are often given money in order to get the companies to build their stores in cities in order to bring jobs to those cities. However, it seems most of the jobs that are promised never materialize. Some people have called for these deals to have claw back options where the cities would be able to demand a return of at least some of the money given to companies if the jobs promised do not get created.

(31 posts)The bulk of his supporters couldn't care less about jobs and never believed he would/could save/create them, that was just a campaign gimmick. What they care about is keeping dark-skinned people down and people with vaginas out and building a wall. It's really that simple.
