Sanders draws thousands to rallies against Senate healthcare bill

TheHill:

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) drew thousands of people to his rallies this weekend, held to encourage senators to oppose the Senate GOP healthcare plan.

On Saturday night, Sanders drew a crowd of about 1,600 in Pennsylvania, according to the Pittsburg Post-Gazette.

“We will not be part of a process which takes from working families, takes from the sick, takes from the children, takes from the elderly, takes from the poor, in order to give huge tax breaks to people who don’t need them,” Sanders said during the rally.

“A great nation is not judged by the number of millionaires and billionaires it has,” he continued, but “how well it rests the most vulnerable."
On Sunday, the Vermont senator held a rally in Ohio, where he drew about 2,200 people and similarly spoke out against the Senate's healthcare proposal.

Sanders is of the hardest working Senators in the Senate. Always the statesman - working his ass off to make America better for the 99%.

4. Thank you, Bernie.

He's working for the people as hard today as he was when I first voted for him many, many years ago.

6. Sometimes I get tired of hearing him say the same thing over and over...

But that's what makes him great. He stays on message and speaks truth to power... over and over again.

This is how We make America Great. Not great again. Better than we have ever been.

14. Exactly!

There are some who carry the D behind their names who shouldn't even be in the party given their proclivity for being assholes.

10. Good for him (and for us)!

That's exactly what I expect from a sitting US senator allied with Democrats.

13. Bernie is carrying on the work

Of FDR, JFK, and other greats. He paraphrased this great quote:

"Our society must make it right and possible for old people not to fear the young or be deserted by them, for the test of a civilization is the way that it cares for its helpless members."

- Pearl S. Buck

15. Where are the Senators ranked by who is "hardest working"? I've missed that list.

It can't be based on the number of bills passed, or even introduced, or Bernie wouldn't be near the top. (As you say he is.)

16. He's (co)sponsored about 3/4 as many bills/amendments as Schumer.

https://www.congress.gov/member/charles-schumer/S000148

Considering he votes with Democrats more often than most actual Democratic Senators, I think your characterization of Sander's record seems a little desperate.

There's a comprehensive listing of his entire congressional career in that link I generously provided to you.

I gave you all of the information on his congressional career, not just the cherry picked data from 2016.

21. Bills that never get passed by Congress aren't much of an accomplishment, or even a sign

of working very hard. Shepherding a bill all the way through Congress IS very hard work.

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/03/bernies-record-220508

Sanders had big ideas but little impact on Capitol Hill

Democrats who worked with the Vermont senator say he contributed to the debate, but rarely forged actual legislation or left a significant imprint on it.
