(101,405 posts)'journals.democraticunderground.com' and 'metamorphosis.democraticunderground.com' are alternative URLs for DU (rather than the normal 'www.democraticunderground.com'. Reasons for their existence will be technical, and maybe historical, that I expect only Elad could explain. DU converted to using secure HTTP (ie "http*s*://www..." recently, and that may cause compatibility problems with the other names (which may turn up in a Google search, for instance). If you've still got the address, try changing it to start "https://www.democraticunderground".

(32,854 posts)They're trying to scare you into buying something, probably a VPN service.
Don't ever click on the link and for God's sake, never give them your credit card number.
You don't need to worry about the "privacy issue," this is just a fake scare tactic.
On the other hand, a reputable and safe VPN is not a bad idea, since everyone's searches are being collected and sold by their ISP's now.

It's the standard Chrome warning that you are trying to access a NON-HTTPS web site, or http which is considered non-secure these days. I'm sure he will encrypt it soon enough.
