they don't want to have to live up to Trump's promises that he made while campaigning with respect to it?

His promises were contrary to Repug thinking and there is no way that they would go along with Trump on it.

I'm thinking that they are keeping Trump at arms length on this too. They don't want him to catch wind that they are using him and his name (Trumpcare) to pass a health care bill that is not in line with what Trump was promising.

If and when this bill gets passed - it will be signed by Trump. It will affectionately be know as Trumpcare. When Trump is impeached or loses his presidency in this Russian thingy. The Repugs will blame anything negative that this healthcare bill brings to the table - on Trump. Trump is the patsy on this and as long as the Repugs keep saying nice things to him and stoking his ego - he'll go along with what they say and do. However, if he catches on how they are using him - I think they'll have hell to pay.

2. Fact is, Ryan and McConnell are the authors of this AHCA, not Trump

I don't believe Cheeto can tell one bill from the other, since he never reads any of them. He doesn't know what Obamacare is, but he hates it because Obama's name is on it.

He can't tell us how "his" program is different from the ACA. He just wants something with his name on it. Probably even renaming Obamacare as Trumpcare would do the trick.

Now Ryan and McConnell are a different story because they're driving this thing and they know what's in the AHCA bill. They know that it's not even a healthcare bill, it's a tax cut for the extremely rich people who "own" the Republican party. Besides the tax cuts, this AHCA will make it easier for the insurance companies to deny coverage to the older, sicker and more expensive enrollees. Or they can charge rates that are so high that people just can't afford it, and that's the same thing. People won't get healthcare coverage which is the whole point.

McConnell didn't want anybody to see the bill until the last possible moment because he knew it would be extremely difficult to get it passed by the Senate. The less time anybody has to read it, the less chance we Democrats would have to fight it or stop its progress.
We still need to appy pressure on the swing votes in the Senate. Enough GOP Senators seem to be against it that we can shoot this down.

4. The only thing that Trump wants in that bill is the tax cuts

It was, is, and always will be about cutting taxes. His campaign promises, were nothing but a bunch of nonsense to dupe stupid people into voting for him.
