A woman takes pictures of her abortion...
My intention in documenting and sharing my abortion is to demystify the sensationalist images propagated by the religious and political right on this matter. The perverse use of lifeless fetus photographs are a propaganda tool in the prolife/prochoice debate in which women and their bodies are used as pawns to push a cultural, political, and religious agenda in the United States.
At 6 weeks of pregnancy, my abortion looked very different than the images I saw when I entered the clinic that day. This is my abortion. To learn more about this project, please read my oped for The Guardian. http://www.thisismyabortion.com/

1. Good reality check.
This is good information to counter the fetus-fetishists and their gore-posters.

2. Had a miscarrige at 6 weeks
and didn't even know I had one. Never would have if I didn't have a scheduled OB check up a few days later. I just thought I had a late period. There was nothing to see, and it all went down the toilet.
The OT is very true. You would probably need a microscope to see a 6 week miscarriage/abortion. |

3. I understand that she means well
but I don't expect this will win many people over to the pro-choice cause.

4. Winning over anti-abortion people is not her intent,
Last edited Thu Jul 12, 2012, 01:33 AM - Edit history (2) your criticism makes no sense. She quite clearly states in her op-ed:
Recently, I had an abortion, which I documented with a hidden mobile phone camera and then shared the images on the internet. I chronicled and published my experience on thisismyabortion.com to show what a safe abortion looks like, and to counter the perverse use of dead foetus images used by the anti-abortion movement. My hope is this project will help dispel the fear, lies and hysteria around abortion, and empower women to make educated decisions for their bodies.

10. Could also turn off moderates just like the classic aborted fetus pictures would.
"This is what a safe, legal abortion looks like" is NOT going to win over anyone who isn't already pro-choice. People can get mad as shit at me but that one will most certainly be an "I told you so" in the end. This'll do no better than those other shock jock pictures.

11. Accuracy in reporting is a rare thing these days.
'This is my abortion' is accurate.
