Without a doubt, Kamala Harris is the most qualified person in America to be our next president. The freshman senator from California has already proven her political acumen, her progressive bonafides, and her refreshing outlook that brings out the dynamic presence that only Barack Obama has shown, along with the ability to complete the interrupted transformation of this country from its capitalist oppression to the fully progressive, global integrating society that is necessary for the total harmony and the elimination of the GOP as a force for all time.
Kamala is all the right attributes: Female, progressive, person of color, and a representative of our most progressive state in the nation: California. She resonates positively across all factions, is someone that the media can promote with conscience-free exhilaration, and work well with all Democrats and even progressive-leaning Republicans (at least the ones that will be left).
Kamala will have the ability, ALONG with the popular agenda to turn back all of Trump's (or Pence's) executive orders, reinstating Obama's executive orders, and working with a definite 2020 Democratic-majority Senate and House to finally get single-payer off the ground, restore fair and sustantial tax hikes not just on income, but also on dividends, enact a 90% estate tax, reduce the size of the military, and most importantly, reinstate our immigration policies that will facilitate the population trend to reduce whites to a true minority.
I realize we are two years away from the start of the presidential primary season, but lets start NOW and promote her here. If you all think it's too early, then let me remind you: Had Bernie Sanders basically started HIS presidential campaign a year earlier, he would have been president as he would have easily overcome the oppressive Super Delegate system that the Democrats have stupidly kept in place, and would not have had the (admittedly overhyped) problems that Hillary Clinton brought. And lets face it: WHO is more qualified, more photogenic, more youthful, more experienced, and more progressive than Kamala at the national level? In short, getting behind Kamala now will SEND A MESSAGE to the DNC that WE NEED REAL DIVERSITY, and REAL PROGRESSIVE VALUES.
Kamala Harris, President-Elect, 2020... MAKE IT SO!!

(404 posts)She has been working behind the scenes quietly raising money for many Democratic contenders, and even helping with existing Democrat's races. I have every confidence that 2018 will be a banner year for Democrats as we take the House, and hold off our losses on the Senate (remember, we are defending 10 seats in competitive districts, while the GOP is only defending 2 seats in competitive districts, although we might make inroads there). In particular, if Kamala helps Tom Perez, Barack Obama and the DNC to win the House back, then her stature will shoot through the roof. THIS is what I mean by a consummate politician, probably the best candidate we've ever had save for Barack Obama.

(31,454 posts)personally adore her, and agree she'd make a wonderful chief executive. But all the Bernie shit you conjectured about is pure tripe. Nothing but. I think Kamala would be better served if she weren't included in comparisons with Bernie Sanders. She's a progressive, but she's also a rock solid Democrat. Nobody, including you, knows that "he would have been president as he would have easily overcome the oppressive Super Delegate system that the Democrats have stupidly kept in place". Our super delegate system did exactly what it was intended to do, and I have absolutely no regrets about that.
Bernie's appeal was limited to folk like you. He had near zero appeal to POC, and he's been at it for decades, so another year wouldn't have made a thimble full of difference. Since you seem to want to re-fight the last battle and introduce some (let's call it)creative conjecture, I'm not sure Kamala would be want to be associated with this o.p., and if she does, I'm not sure I'd want to be associated with her.

(404 posts)Yes, I voted for Hillary Clinton just as fervently as I voted for Bernie Sanders in the primary. But "rock solid Democrat"...what IS that, anyway? Granted, Hillary Clinton is one of the most rock solid Democrats of our time, and in a normal universe would be president now. But this year was an anomaly, due to the insane nature of the right. (For instance, if you think Trump is bad, it could have been worse: Ted Cruz). And Hillary Clinton is, by far and away, the most successful Democrat (other than Barack Obama), and one of the most skilled artisans of the political craft, since her husband.
Age, though will play a factor this time around. The millennials will be fully matured through college and in the workforce or public sector with seasoned attitudes. They see a Justin Trudeau, right at the cusp of Gens X and Millennial, and anyone older, no matter how progressive or forthright they are with their actions, will outshine strong, competent, and socially savvy Gen X'ers like Harris.
Finally: Let's see how Kamala Harris helps out her Senate and House comrades in the 2018 elections. She was an integral part of the California ascendancy of the progressive movement which resulted in now-permanent supermajority in the California legislature, and a Republican will never see the light of day at the state level.

Besides, she's intelligent and gives the asshole GOPers what they deserve when they try to shut her up. Yep, I'd vote for her in a minute.

(46,188 posts)I guess that depends on how one measures and ranks qualifications. I think she could be an excellent candidate, but I don't see her as being so far ahead of other potential candidates to declare her far ahead of anyone else. There are a number of potential candidates, some more "progressive" than others but all potentially electable, including Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff. I could probably name a half dozen others, but the point is that it's a tad early to declare one person the be all and end all candidate at this point in time.

(404 posts)But let's not suppress a good thing from the get-go. I've known Kamala since her days on the San Francisco City Attorney's office. The respect that she commands runs across the board. Keep in mind she could have held out and run for governor, but her eyes are on the bigger scheme of things: to make life better for a global community of progressive humans, not just Americans.

This is not to say she can't withstand bullies, as the entire Republican Leadership can claim, but what I myself saw was a GOP leadership that wanted to shut Kamala down PRECISELY because she is now one of the defacto leaders of the Senate, of which only Elizabeth Warren and Barack Obama had displayed in their freshmen stints. In short, they are SCARED TO DEATH of her! A great sign and indication indeed.
Edited to add: Frankly, California will never go less than strong progressive on any statewide candidate, be it Senate, Governor, or Lt. Governor. Keep in mind that Kamala won a runoff with another DEMOCRAT, Loretta Sanchez, a stalwart of the House, and one who took out Bob Dornan, who essentially was Donald Trump without the billions of dollars.

(46,155 posts)Harris is great but I promise you she will get the full Hillary smear treatment by misguided "BoB-Boaters for Truth" in the twitterverse and blogosphere. She'll be targeted by the right as well.
I really don't want to expose her to that now.
P.S. The DNC is a deadly dull organizational agency, not the evil cabal the Sputnik News-addled conspiracy nuts on Reddit are claiming. Tom Perez and Keith Ellison are strong progressives.

(65,934 posts)But, it is too early for me to say. I don't even know much about her background. I know Warren better, and if she does well in her reelection, I prefer her at this time. I doubt Bernie runs again, but if he does, he would of course appeal to me. The field we get will be interesting.
