I had never read the interview and the only thing that was put out was the quote about lusting in his heart and adultery. The link to the interview is received by me with thanks. I see that President Carter is now the same caring thoughtful man he has been his whole life. I have saved the interview to my bookmarks because it is so good to read how a person can be on the right road politically through the guidance of his Christian faith. It is amazing that so many are filled with hatred and are judgemental claim to be doing the same. Mr. Carter is a role model for any to follow whether they are theists, atheists or agnostics. Franklin Graham etal are the antithesis of Christ, Buddha and Gandhi.

Rant over- Just read the interview, it is very good.

They told dirty jokes within their group when they got together.

But then would always deny it later.

Same with the pastors I grew up around.

People are funny that way.

I am often amused by them.

People don't know anything about what President Carter said in the interview. It is very good. The only thing they remember is what the media reported- Lust in heart-committed adultery. Just follow the link and read the interview. Most all of us here at DU respect Mr. Carter. This interview gives us even more reason. Jimmy is consistent.

Never read the entire article before. Carter was a great man and still is. Maybe if you had worded the title of the post differently it wouldn't enflame old negativity - but hindsight is 20/20 right?

answer included. A reminder of what a good and substantial man he was/is:

Christ says, Don’t consider yourself better than someone else because one guy screws a whole bunch of women while the other guy is loyal to his wife. The guy who’s loyal to his wife ought not to be condescending or proud because of the relative degree of sinfulness. One thing that Paul Tillich said was that religion is a search for the truth about man’s existence and his relationship with God and his fellow man; and that once you stop searching and think you’ve got it made–at that point, you lose your religion. Constant reassessment, searching in one’s heart–it gives me a feeling of confidence.

I don’t inject these beliefs in my answers to your secular questions.

(Carter clenched his fist and gestured sharply.)

But I don’t think I would ever take on the same frame of mind that Nixon or Johnson did–lying, cheating and distorting the truth. Not taking into consideration my hope for my strength of character, I think that my religious beliefs alone would prevent that from happening to me. I have that confidence. I hope it’s justified.
