Note: Trump campaign began paying Don Jr's lawyer about two weeks before the email story broke

The Trump campaign began paying Don Jr's lawyer about two weeks before the email story broke, per new FEC filing

It's almost like they knew those pesky emails saying they met with Russian spies were about to a big news story. Guess what! They were.

Yeah, this is a big ole nothing burger. Please pass the fries.

Another update:

The campaign is also paying the Trump Corp. for legal consulting, a new category of campaign-to-Trump company payments as best I can tell

Things you can't make up...

Update again:

thanks to your post!

Soooo, the Trump Campaign is footing the bill for all this...I wonder if all the WH aides are getting a little $$ help from that pool of riches, because surely a lot of them will need representation...?

Thanks, as ever, MelissaB!

Not that there could be any doubt with Manafort and Kushner there too, but at least they have self-precluded a denial that it was for the campaign. Nonetheless, didn't they try that excuse after paying the lawyer from the campaign fund?

What is Jr's official role in the 2020 campaign? And this is 2016 campaign shenanigans. I don't know much about the ins & outs of campaign finance regulations but this sure seems fishy to me.

You can not use campaign funds to pay for a private person's lawyer ....
not unless Trump Jr.'s lawyer is gonna argue that Jr. was working for the
Trump campaign when he he was getting stolen property (computer hacked
stuff) and working to rig the election.

Trump campaign paid lawyer now representing son $50,000 in June

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Donald Trump's presidential re-election campaign made a $50,000 payment in June to the law office now representing Donald Trump Jr. more than a week before revelations that the president's son had met with a Russian lawyer during the campaign.

The payment to the Law Offices of Alan S. Futerfas, dated June 27, was disclosed in a filing with the Federal Election Commission on Saturday. It was described as covering "legal consulting" fees. Separately, the campaign also paid Jones Day, the law firm that represented Trump's campaign during the election.

Spokesmen for Trump's re-election campaign and Futerfas could not be immediately reached for comment.

The campaign also paid $89,561 to The Trump Corporation for "legal consulting." The company, owned by the president, is not a law firm. They payment was dated June 30th
