1. Universal health care medicare for all!
2. Universal utilities power water phone and internet for all!
3. Universal housing a home for everyone!
4. Universal education from prek to graduate degree.
How do we accomplish these goals by reframing peoples understanding of taxes. People think of a tax as the government taking from them and wasting the money on whatever pork project they have going. But taxes are much more than just what the government takes. The rich tax you as well. They tax for access to housing they tax you for utilities they tax you for healthcare they tax you for education they tax you for food. Instead of paying the tax to the government you are paying it to a corporation and making wealthy people that do almost nothing even wealthier.
Our tax dollars paid for the internet and cellphone infrastructure now private corporation tax us to use that infractructure.
Our tax dollars paid for the power grid and dams the water and electric infrastructure now private corporations tax us for access while making the wealthy even wealthier.
If it wasnit for our education system and colleges the corporations would have no work force. Innovation comes from the college campuses through tax payer funding. Yet private corporations tax us for access to these innovations. And they expect the workers to pay for their own education so the worker can get in debt and work a dead end job for the rest of their life.
Its the corporations that should be paying for education in this country. It is the education of the work force that allows them to be successful.
Your mortgage is a tax, water bill a tax. Health care bill a tax, Rent payment a tax. Electric bill a tax and on and on.
Thats why a graduated tax system with all the necessities in life being taken care of makes the most sense. And the wealthy who benefit the most from living in this society and those who live off the hard work of others pay the most!

(228 posts)Our goal as a country should be that everybody has a home. Everybody has health care. Everybody has an education. Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness the basic american dream. And there doesnt have to be some fat cats some where getting rich off of it. We the people already own it.

(146,370 posts)you know. Perhaps we should work on that first?
WinstonSmith00
(228 posts)Start being honest with people about how the wealthy exploit the government and the people for their own gain yet they dont want to pay taxes so everyone can have health care everyone can have a home everyone can have a world class education and every one can have the basic necessities to life liberty and happiness.

(19,993 posts)you live in. There is an onus on Governments to provide for all its people, but it doesn't absolve those working for those service providers from making sure waste is minimised. Otherwise, lowlifes like the Republicans will use it for their own ends.

(228 posts)We must end waste and elitist gaming the system.

(228 posts)Im talking about expanding the party platform to these more progressive goals.
If we truly treated everybody like economic equals and end the police state and truly educate people civil rights shouldnt be a problem.

(228 posts)The elites of party are to beholden to the corporate elites that fund them.
But we need democrats talking about this we need the entire party to push left and move the country left and hopefully educate the ignorant along the way.

(89,319 posts)Let's stop making excuses for bigots.
Over 90 percent of black people voted for Clinton. Including those with little to no education.
Back people certainly are not the elites in this country.

(228 posts)Trump even told us it would be. I dont know what went wrong in 2016.
Im just trying to talk about a dialogue on how to move forward and how to get voters motivated.

Plus with a fair tax structure where the wealthiest are taxed the most and everybody pays what they can afford and corporations and elites no longer get a free ride. It wouldnt cost any more than all the cost you currently incur every month in fact it can be cheaper because there is not a ceo and investors taking huge salaries and profits.

(11,949 posts)And I strongly disagree with all but the first. And even with health care I would oppose a U.K. or Canadian system as opposed to an insurance based system like in France or Germany.
If we run on that platform we will be demolished as a party.
We need to go back to the model we had till Reagan. Government support for those who need it until they no longer needed it.

(228 posts)Where owners exploit the workers and the vast majority of people barely get by month to month making somebody else rich.
Why should we pay some billionaire so much money to get electricity when we built the dams we ran the cables it all runs through public lands and is owned by the public.
Why should we pay billionaire for access to clean water when we built it and we the people paid for the sanitation plants and plumbing and sewers.
Why should we pay so much for internet when our tax dollars built the infrastructure it runs on.
Why should we pay all these billionaires so much every month for doing nothing we the people cant do through our own government for a lot less money?
GulfCoast66
(11,949 posts)A return to pre Reagan Rules which means-
-strong unions
-strong regulation on business
-make it illegal to pay CEO salaries with stock options like before Reagan
-very high top marginal tax rates to encourage CEO to think long term since with no super high untaxed salaries nor stock options the only to get super rich is to stay with and grow a company rather than rape it for short term gain
-increase in Pell grants and low cost college loans plus increased support for universities
- and insurance based universal health care system like in Germany.
You get the idea. Not only do these things actually work since they are being done in many nations and used to work here, but it is a platform that Americans will vote for.
Even were I a socialist rather than a Social Democrat I would know Americans will never vote for your platform. Most members of the Democratic Party would and have not.
Have a nice afternoon.

(228 posts)Medicare works perfectly well without a corporate insurance middle man. Medicare was intended to be expanded and include all Americans.
College loans are just a scam to exploit the poor and make them pay a stipend to the rich for the rest of their life. Just yet another tax from the wealthy.
With a high top tax rate we can afford these things why not do it?
GulfCoast66
(11,949 posts)Private business or even nonprofits like are often seen in Europe can bring some advantages. The French and German systems are normally considered the best in the world.
Pell grants are designed for the poor and when we funded them they worked.
Low cost loans insure that the students have some skin in the game. And why spend scarce resources paying for the kids of the upper middle class and wealthy? Sure in Europe college is free. But many people cannot get in due to limited openings and competitive testing. Americans will not accept that system.
But the main thing you are missing is Americans will never, ever support your goals.
WinstonSmith00
(228 posts)These goals if it was explained to them correctly.
I have faith in my fellow humans that the majority of us want to see us all flourish and live happy lives and the current system of the wealthy exploiting our government and our people is what the American people never should of went for.

(24,786 posts)I'd like to see either solar panels, wind turbines, or both installed in every home--including rental housing--not only because of the environmental soundness, but also because they would serve as backup electricity sources in case the russkies decide to mess with the power grid.
This would make sense especially for businesses so their operations wouldn't be disrupted because some cybercriminal decided to try to cause a massive blackout.
WinstonSmith00
(228 posts)These shopping centers have massive roofs.
Germany is a great example of how to do solar.

(228 posts)Having a Government that works for the people and supports everybody's right to life liberty and happiness by providing a minimum standard of living is where we need to go.
Instead we have a Government that works for the billionaires and it is corrupt and ran by mobsters and banksters.
All war profiteers, embezzlers, insider traders, and the organized crime that runs our government need to be arrested under the rico act their billions seized and redistributed to the people.

(8,203 posts)There is nobody in this country who got rich on their own. Nobody. You built a factory out there - good for you. But I want to be clear.
You moved your goods to market on roads the rest of us paid for.
You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate.
You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory... Now look. You built a factory and it turned into something terrific or a great idea - God bless! Keep a hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.
