i guess we could learn from bernie on messaging..

So, guess who is on all in with ari melber taking a victory lap about the health care bill demise, yeap Bernie. He is much better at hammering a message than our democratic leaders. As far as I could see, the gop efforts were largely twarthed by the grass root organizations who mobilized heavily. I did not see Bernie there at the forefront any more than schumer or others.

No one sidetracked him today with potshot questions.

The other morning on Morning Joe, they tee'd him up nicely for his observations about Democrats and let him speak unchallenged and uninterrupted.

It's very noticeable.

Bernie has been out making a lot of stops al over country campaigning to improve healthcare , Iowa couple days ago , he is also heading to Florida . Here is Iowa link https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/07/16/bernie-sanders-returns-iowa-slam-disastrous-gop-health-bill/482390001/

in the clip you posted.

People can always see/hear what they want to believe which is why I dislike the short clips corporate media plays and that are posted on social media.

I always prefer to watch the entire interview and then form a conclusion.

Judy Woodruff asked a follow up question of him about Trump blaming Dems for the defeat, he included himself as a Dem and took responsibility/credit in the defeat of this bill. He has worked hard visiting various states over several weekends and has had the same message for decades.

He continues to get the message out that we need a NHC system, not a bad thing IMHO.

72. The embedded video above is not from an interview.

It's a campaign style video. It's not clear who the "we" Sanders refers to actually is, but it's certainly not any of his congressional colleagues.

At about the 3:00 mark, Sanders begins to tell the targeted audience that "[universal coverage through single payer] would be an unprecedented struggle in the modern history of our country" (he's seems to have forgotten about both 1993 and 2008) because "we" will be taking on not only the insurance and drug companies but also "the political establishment". Sanders then cautions his target audience to expect "hostility from the corporate media".

Sanders finishes by saying "I look forward to working with all of you to develop a movement that takes us forward".

I wonder who he's talking to.

This whole thread has been turned upside down trying to figure out what is really up. Thanks for your post.

Thank you, Bernie has been advocating single payer, universal health care for decades. He's not campaigning, he's focusing on rallying opposition to the GOP plan and reminding people the fight isn't over.

If we use that 'logic' then all of our outspoken senators are "campaigning" and not fighting Trump.

Seems like an attempt to dismiss the hard work they're doing.

32. Seriously? Not one mention the Democratic Party and their efforts. The people, "we" as in his voice

and the people. Are you seriously stating he made this about the people? He made it about him, the we, the people, doing all the work to stop it and then further implements his we (excluding the Democratic Party, conspicuously) to the people and his movement.

Nah, This does not do it for me. Yes, applaud the people. You betcha and all, that includes the Democratic Leadership being forefront. I am not surprised by this speech. A good speech. I agree with him. But vintage Sanders. Not disappointed in my point of view, consistent.

36. Lulz. He LITERALLY thanks the millions of people who contacted their representatives.

That video proves Bernie didn't take the credit for any of it so the claim that he did and "hoarded the glory" is demonstrably false.

Bernie isn't addressing legislators, he's speaking directly to the public. That's why he thanked the people who rallied and encouraged them to keep fighting.

He made a difference by helping to get the message out there. He was definitely a factor. With his appearances on tv, in various communities and social media, he engaged a lot of people to continue to fight for healthcare. His voice was very helpful.

67. Yes we could, he's never stopped trying. Here's Bernie in 1993 advocating for single payer hc:

Thank you Bernie, for never giving up on this issue. A majority of Democratic congressmen recently cosponsored the Medicare For All bill, so it's no longer some socialist pipe dream from the fringe left.

That's what progressives do, they keep trying to make progress no matter how much opposition they face.

He never wavers in that, and a part of that is the importance of healthcare. If he takes a victory lap for the republican's plan going down in flames, well good. He deserves it.

79. Hopefully it will be part of the next platform since a majority of Democrats support it.

From Pew:

"Among Democrats, 52% now say health insurance should be provided through a single national insurance system run by the government, while fewer (31%) say it should be provided through a mix of private companies and government programs. The share of Democrats supporting a single national program to provide health insurance has increased 9 percentage points since January and 19 points since 2014.

Nearly two-thirds of liberal Democrats (64%) now support a single-payer health insurance system, up 13 percentage points since January. Conservative and moderate Democrats remain about evenly divided: 38% prefer that health insurance continue to be provided by a mix of private insurance companies and government programs, while 42% favor a single-payer approach.

Overall, support for a single-payer health insurance system is much greater among younger adults than older people. Two-thirds of adults younger than 30 (67%) say the government has a responsibility to provide health coverage for all, with 45% saying coverage should be provided through a single national program."

http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/06/23/public-support-for-single-payer-health-coverage-grows-driven-by-democrats/

And you're welcome for the video!

86. Unfortunately not the Dems in congress who vote on legislation, not many speak of a NHC ...

ten years ago over 60% of the population in polls were in favor of a national system.

Unless elected officials in our party start Advancing the issue, and people keep pressuring them, it will be a distant dream. All we here are excuses from the Dem leaders

We need to do better, with HC and education if we want to compete in a global society.

93. The latest Medicare for All bill had 104 sponsors, that's more than half.

So we're making progress, it doesn't stand a chance of making it to the Senate but I applaud progressives for trying. And now that the people are on our side we know they're getting the message.

We need to have more town halls, more rallies, more debates, let the people see who's fighting for health care for all. The people are listening.

97. The people are listening, but we need more Dems in Congress on board, no excuses ...

no sitting back and blaming the other side and expecting people to vote for one party or another and expecting everyone to fall in line. We got Trump because he falsely promised he was on the people's side.

The Dems totally underestimated the growing necessity to live and thrive in our country, I fear they are still not listening and years later we'll still be debating the same issues as we have been for decades.

It's a big club, and we're not in it ... unless we speak loudly and not acquiesce.

103. Where were the rest of the Dems? Pushing back on TrumpCare in the House and Senate.

Schumer and Bernie are the public faces of Dems in the Senate. Bernie's in charge of Outreach so of course part of his job is to get out in public. He's very good at that.

However doesn't mean Dems in congress were doing nothing. Anyone paying attention knows they were working their asses off fighting the GOP/Trump agenda.

108. This is a Street fight. Not a back room deal fight.

I think Democrats forget that some times.

A lesson we took from Gore/Bush 2000 is the repigs we're fighting a Street fight while we thought the courts would take care of us.

That goes for the Russia scandal too. We should remember that when trump declares it a witch hunt, pardons everybody and the repig majority does nothing. Then the media will say, oh what are you going to do, one side says one thing and the other side says something else. Ho hum.

110. Thanks for saying what I was thinking.

I used to be here daily, and hardly ever come to DU anymore for that reason. The purpose of this thread, just like most threads, is to refight the primaries...or at least to bash Bernie. I only come here occasionally to see if they are done with the bashing and are mobilizing against Trump and company. I remember how important this site was during the Baby Bush years at keeping me sane. So far, not helping my sanity at this important time. I never thought that I would say we have someone even worse than Shrub, but we do...and no place to vent and organize the fight. Hell's bells!
