After watching politics closely this year, more so than ever since I deem a real thread is about, I think I determined my front runners for the 2020 Democratic Nomination. I know it is really early to be making these kinds of guesses since so much can happen over the next three years but here is who I want running. I will keep this in my journal and revisit it in late 2019.
1. Kamala Harris - Yes I am biased since I am in California and have watched her for years now. She will be attacked heavily from the right as they (will) see her to be as big a threat as Hillary. She should at least get her name out there for others to learn about this great woman so that if she doesn't make it, then she will be known for 2024.
2 - Al Franken - I have him pretty much tied with Kamala but I chose her because I think she is the future. Al is a very smart person who has balls and would do great things for this country. I am not sure how he plays with the no party crowd but I think they could go along with him.
3 - Adam Schiff - I really like this guy but I think he would be better for 2024 or 2028. If he continues as well as he has been lately, then maybe 2020 is his time.
4. - Michelle Obama - I doubt she will run but if she does, I would move her to the top of this list in a heartbeat.
Honor roll mentions:
-Cory Booker - He has been rising in my opinion but not quite there yet.
-Gavin Newsom - I like him and voted for him, but it might not quite be his time yet.
-Kirsten Gillibrand - The woman is tenacious and on the right path. She has a future.

(4,492 posts)Our nominee will not be a woman (and should not). Last year taught us that we're just not yet ready to elect a woman as president. I'm fully convinced that we need a woman as VP first before we can even consider it.
(I'm female in case you can't tell by my screen name).

(1,786 posts)More people voted for her. I am one who truly believes that this election was stolen so I am not willing to say that the results say this or that. But you might be right and that is still a decade or so away.

Don't forget that Clinton won the popular vote by almost 3 million ballots. That is impressive.
The problem wasn't that she is a woman. The problem is that the fix was in between Republican racketeers and the Kremlin.

"if marijuana is medicine it needs to be treated like medicine"
- great. So instead of a plant that sick people can grow in their backyard for free, we can give it to a pharma company to patent and process and turn into something they can sell back to those same people for $200 a pill.

And no, no antiabortionists and no drug warriors against cannabis. Enough is enough.

(80,708 posts)If this kid is really all that, he's young, he's got plenty of time to win me over.
But I do think people on our side- especially the ones trying to build the "perfect winning candidate" by plugging things like family connections into the frankenstein machine-- forget that BOTH of our last two, successful, two term Democratic Presidents, came from humble middle class origins, no pedigree whatsoever.
Meritocracy in action.

and then asked the pivotal question, "with regard to your connections, don't you think it wise to recuse herself from an investigation." (I paraphrase, so I question my use of quotation marks).
I think that gives a major bunch of bonus points above everything else.

(21,709 posts)The Mick Jagger impression alone as awesome as it is, would do him in. Michelle won't run. I think I'd include Mark Warner in the mix. He managed to win in Virginia, which can swing either way, though it is turning bluer.

(3,827 posts)It was a midnight show with Franken and some other SNL stars at the Filmore with Bill Graham- Pretty sure Franken is out of his mind in that vid. lol
I have thought about posting it on YT, but I don't want to hurt his chances for a potential POTUS run. But I'm sure others out there have it in their arsenal of tapes to hit him if he decided to run.
*Update*
It was a Winterland show for New Years 78- A local TV station recorded the pre-concert festivities and Franken was one of the announcers during the event.
The Blues Brothers opened for the Grateful Dead that night.

(80,708 posts)Not that he has a lot of choice, given his history in the media and the public eye- as you say, there's a lot of evidence.
His last book is a great read; I'm about 2/3 of the way through it... As other people here have noted, make sure you read the footnotes, too.. they're a riot.
He also had an appearance in the 4 hour GD Documentary on Amazon- if you haven't watched that yet, it's great.

Franken will need to do what Obama did re his drug use. Franken will need to write a book and put it all out there...drug use, comedy... and 'plain it away. If he loses the election, he will still be rich.
Great if Michelle would be VP, but she won't.

(13,460 posts)And others people have listed in the thread. There isn't much good to see in the democracy-threatening situation we find ourselves in now, but I only knew Kamala Harris as the new Senator from CA, and didn't have a clue who Adam Schaffer was, now I see people with serious leadership qualities that the party needs.

(11,175 posts)If your list is intended to be good candidates, I'd add Jeff Merkley.
If your list is intended to be likely candidates who would have a good chance of winning the nomination, I'd add Andrew Cuomo. He's from the more conservative wing of the party, and he'd attract a lot of the support (especially Wall Street donors) that Clinton got.
