(41,861 posts)seriously, here in San Francisco we have some Excellent Chinese food places...and General Tso's chicken is amazing. So are the thousand of other CHINESE dishes available. My favorite lately has been...Clams in black bean sauce...

My husband would adore that clam dish!
Last time we got to SF, we ate a lot of Chinese food and Sunday morning Dim Sum. Nothing like that in Iowa.

(41,861 posts)maybe the peanutbutter mixed with the marmalade would be interesting. I know that Thai people use peanut sauce, which is a bit different from peanut butter, but the sauce is awesome on some dishes. Its great so long as you are not allergic to peanuts.

(41,861 posts)how did you obtain the black beans? I have eaten it like four times now and can never get enough, however, they do make a spiceyer version of that that's very hot. I like spicy but not like that, so I prefer it with no hot sauces in it.

They are mostly into Sichuan which is what I mostly cook, but...
I am SURE you can get good fermented black beans in SF. Look for "dou chi," if it is written in Pinyin.
And this one is not hot if you don't use any or just a few red chillies as you like. Works with mussels and chicken and pork also...
They keep forever. Looks like the Hunan Provincial Museum has some that were found in a tomb from the 2nd century BC !
