Occupy LA, Artwalk, strangers, in stand-off and attacks with riot police, livestream Graphic!

Last edited Sat Jul 21, 2012, 04:22 PM - Edit history (9)

There have been 11 or 12 arrests for using chalk on sidewalks and benches in LA despite a 9th circuit court judge having ruled that no chalk shall harm a sidewalk...this has not slowed down the police one bit. Tonight they wanted to join "Artwalk" and do civil disobedience chalking, and I can hear police helicopters.

More than four shots fired, note that none of them are Occupiers. The one on the phone was just going to a 7/11...

There has been no dispersal order!

22. The KCBS news report was negative
Fri Jul 13, 2012, 02:24 AM
Jul 2012

Described protesters as 'unruly,' 'disrespectful,' etc., bottles thrown at police.

Police had pushed them back to 4th & Spring, dispersal orders were reportedly being given, and police appeared ready to move in to make arrests soon.

The number of people involved was reported as about 500 at the start, now down to fewer than 20.

The news reported seeing 1 arrest very recently (possibly for assault on a cop), and being told by protesters that there had been about 8 earlier.

Police spokesperson reported an ambulance has been called for one injured person (hit by skateboard).

The news may be going to a live update after the break.

is ludicrous and legally offensive. They get charged with vandalism. Note that a 9th Circuit Judge ruled "no chalk shall harm a sidewalk", and there is chalk designed specifically designed for sidewalks, which easily washes off.

There had been 11 arrests for chalking until now, and word of 11 additional tonight.

It's about politics. The local 1% are actually, literally calling for an end to "intelligence-based graffiti".

Eg, while the police were busy at the main location of the protests, another group should have gone to different location and covered that area with chalk. And then declare victory and put it on Utube.

Splitting up and going to locations that they do not announce would confuse the cops.

"In summer 1937, Joseph Goebbels’ degenerate art commission canvassed Germany, searching public and private collections. Propaganda office officials seized the works of Otto Dix, Oskar Kokoschka, Erich Nolde, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Max Pechstein, and Käthe Kollwitz, among others. Especially hard hit was the modern art division of the Berlin National Gallery, which lost 136 paintings, 28 sculptures, and 324 drawings."

In 2012, the LA police attacked artists armed with CHALK on the streets of downtown Los Angeles...

Wow, just WOW, is all I can say.
I sure don't pay the salaries of the LAPD to attack the artists on Art Walk for carrying and
making CHALK ART.

I hope MANY lawsuits are filed.

Jul 2012
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2012/07/downtown-la-melee-stemmed-from-sidewalk-chalk-demonstration.html

"We were handing out free chalk for freedom of speech," said Cheryl Aichele, 34, a member of Occupy L.A.

Police arrived at the intersection shortly before 10 p.m. to move protesters blocking the street. At one point, an unidentified man tossed a glass bottle over his shoulder that landed in front of a line of LAPD officers gathered on Spring Street between 4th and 5th streets. The man was shot with what appeared to be a non-lethal weapon, witnesses said.

Police used batons and non-lethal projectiles to disperse the crowd, which in turn threw bottles and cans at officers and chanted, "Whose streets? Our streets!"

Hundreds of officers in riot gear systematically moved the crowd away block-by-block as people gathered in the windows of nearby apartments and bars to watch and snap cellphone pictures.
