Metro Detroiters - PLEASE help save the Detroit Institute of Arts on August 7th
http://www.artisforeveryone.org/
The Detroit Institute of Arts has been a vital part of our community for 127 years. With more than 400,000 annual visitors, the DIA has been called America’s most visitor-friendly museum. But the DIA is at risk of closing its doors. Voting YES on this low cost millage will keep the museum open, and allow for free, unlimited admission and free school field trips. A required annual audit and report to each county will insure your investment is used wisely. ~ snip ~ -------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE help save this treasured place. Detroit has suffered so much for so long, we CANNOT afford to lose this vital connection to history and culture.

3. Unfortunately, some will vote no
THEY don't go to the museum, it is down where all them brown folks are, and they don't see what it brings to the entire region.
It is such a small cost (0.2 mills) to help preserve a great and necessary institution. |

4. I haven't gone in years either
and that area is more upscale than where I live.
I still want it to exist. |

5. I wrote this plea a year ago July
Full of hope that this magnificent treasure could be saved, and really opened up to everyone regardless of their financial condition.
A year and a half later, and we are looking at the potential looting of some of the most prized works in the collection. Yes, the artwork under threat is only a small part of the entire collection. But these pieces in particular is what make the D.I.A. world class. I'm not sure what I am asking of anybody other than please help spread awareness, so pressure can be applied. Please help us stop the theft so that art and culture is not swept away just so a 1%er has a nice new conversation piece. |
