(21,506 posts)Concern trolls or otherwise. They are smart enough though to do it within the TOS . Often those troll posts are the most heated posts.
Again over time you start to notice a pattern.

(1,301 posts)From my reading, you are a bit wrong.
"attacks from far left and socialist supporters"
I don't think that is what I am seeing. I'm seeing a considerable amount of language I have seen from righties when describing democrats. They are pretty sneaky but they can't seem to shake certain jargon. I'm loving the support of democrats here.

(14,455 posts)LOL we can be a fractious bunch at times, but we all want what's best for our country and our community. For many years my DU community has kept me off the ledge. Sometimes I talk them down and sometimes they talk me down, but like family, I could not live without them.
Come on in...the water's fine.

(21,506 posts)Depends on the day.
People here tend to have a strong sense of what they think the Democratic party stands for. When an official deviates from what they perceive as the correct positions it can get heated.
Been posting on this board for over ten years and while the community shifts and flows I have never found another site that so consistently has all the latest breaking news with mostly informed discussion.
There are some real insiders here posting anonymously. And experts in almost every field. Over time you get a sense of who has a head on their shoulders and who doesn't.
One thing I know for sure is you will generally read it here then hear the TV talk about it two days later.

(11,767 posts)There is some disunity among people who are Democrats and other Democrats who have embraced a more left leaning perspective. There is still a good deal of bad blood between supporters of Clinton and Sanders. The other, more nefarious situation is likely the presence of trolls and bots who are trying to sow discord by highlighting differences and disparaging "the establishment" versus a more populist form of Democratic ideal.
It is sometimes difficult to suss out who is genuinely trying to address some of the difficulties that Democrats have been having from people who just want to see us fighting each other.
My post count is not super high, but I have been on for about 9 years now (thought it was longer). I took a break for awhile and came back during the primaries.
You may be likely to get pushback from several different directions. Just state your case and have some back up and a decent argument and things will be okay.
Welcome!!

(5,737 posts)Your observations are correct. Some seem to think that the Democratic Party is not far enough to the left. But most of those people are novices and new to politics and voting. Bernie Sanders is a god to them too. There is no "we", it is all about "me" to them. Sanders "free" comments sucked them in like a sponge. People that have been around for a while understand that there is no perfect Democrat. That is the great thing about the Party - it can be all-inclusive. To me personally anyway, if a person thinks 100% like me all the time, I'd be afraid of them.
A current sticking talking point seems to be the "personally against abortion" viewpoint. Some one here will criticize and degrade a person for that position, even though that person lives by every other position that the Democratic Party stands for. The Democratic Party is a huge tent where all sorts of viewpoints should be accepted.
The constant chatter about how easy it would be to move to a single-payer healthcare system is another one of those areas. Some think it is as easy as waving a magic wand. They can't seem to accept that the ACA was a move in that direction, but that it will take several years to get anywhere close to it. Healthcare really is that hard.
Now back to Sanders. Why do so many of his supporters jump onto that free college nonsense? Because they think a person has to go to college to get anywhere in life. I have two degrees, and will be the first to say "nonsense" to that educational route. When about 1/4 of the incoming freshmen to a college never come back for the second semester, then another 1/4 will never come back for their second year, and only about 1/3 of that group will ever get a college degree, it is time to step back from that free tuition talk. The union building trades have apprenticeship programs that have jobs that end up making more than over half of those with a college degree. Plus they get paid while they learn and the school costs nothing - the contractors pay for it.
I hope you enjoy your time here.

(1,063 posts)Lifetime Dem as well. As you can see by some of the one or two snarky comments made at your post that we have all kinds here some are more sensitive than others... But never the less there are many loyal Democrats here who will fight for what we believe in. Say what you mean what you say and you'll be fine.

(72,152 posts)It can get contentious here. I won't deny that. But on balance, most of us support each other, and try to be there for each other.
If General Discussion isn't your thing, there's always the Lounge. Political discussions are prohibited over there, but you at least get the reassurance of knowing you're socializing with friends; there's no DU equivalent of the drunk right-wing uncle whom nobody is ever sure is going to behave himself.
There are so many subgroups devoted to a particular subject that you can be sure that a hobby of yours has an enthusiastic DU following. If you want to lurk in the Forums until you find your DU niche, that's cool, too.
Enjoy, and welcome!

I too am a life-long dem and I subscribe to the belief that even the "worst" democrat is preferable to the "best" republican.
