(131,217 posts)to get campaign funds from the party (maybe more than the GOP would give him) to run for governor. He's a very wealthy coal mine owner; the GOP is certainly a better fit.

(19,342 posts)That has done nothing for the state. Republicans keep screwing W.V. but they seem to love it. lol

(13,305 posts)Or do we just do so only when he has a D after his name.
This all gets very confusing sometimes.
Any Dem is a good Dem......but WHEN they are a Dem?
The Velveteen Ocelot
(131,217 posts)after a lifetime as a Republican because it was efficacious for him to do so. He doesn't need the party any more now that he won his election, so he can be a Republican again. It is not true that any Dem is necessarily a good Dem. This one was a fake from the get-go.

(15,593 posts)Those tea party Republicans are viscous. Easier to win as a Dem against a progressive in an increasingly Red State. Then he'd let the GOP beat themselves up in the primary.
He might well think he has enough state acceptance he can now win a Senate Primary in the GOP to run against Manchin.

(17,146 posts)But this is why Democrats need to be wary of Republican party-switchers. They are mere opportunists, and will bolt again if their ransom isn't paid.
