The media loved to talk about coal jobs when Trump was making promises about them. but they are very disinterested in telling us that coal jobs are stagnant, and even declining.

Kentucky coal jobs and production continued down in the second quarter of the year, illustrating the unlikely prospect of a quick turnaround for the industry despite President Donald Trumps campaign promises to put miners back to work.
Coal mines across the state cut employment by a total of 200 jobs from April 1 through June 30 compared to the first quarter of 2017, or 3 percent, according to a report released Wednesday by the state Energy and Environment Cabinet.

(15,672 posts)Any other job loss, every other republican is like, "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps; find work in another field; take some classes, go back to school!" But with coal it's, "Oh, we must protect the little angels and their jobs!" It doesn't even make sense from going after their votes standpoint as there are fewer and fewer people in those jobs, and chances are coal states are going to go to republicans anyway so republicans don't need to do anything, and democrats might as well be pushing alternative jobs and retraining programs in the hopes some of those dumbass coal miners might wake up, look at the world around them, and say, "Y'know, republicans have been screwing us over, jobs are disappearing, the bosses honestly don't care about our safety and health, and even if I was guaranteed steady employment, I'm still going to be poor. Maybe I should do something, otherwise my children and their families will either be stuck in a worse coal job situation than I am or having to make the decision to leave." Is it like an automatic thing like, "Boy, do I love corn!" when politicians visit Nebraska, or is a combination of Jesus-is-coming-back-soon-so-who-cares-what-we-do-environmentally groups and I-can-only-get-an-erection-when-I'm-destroying-nature conservatives?
