First question out of the gate (without even a, "do you have time to answer questions" or "would you like to participate in a poll" ) was "Are you satisfied or dissatisfied with job the President Trump is doing right now". Oh man, my brain whirred and I felt like a fat kid in a candy shop. So many awesome responses to this question he just soft-balled in there. But then I decided to see what he had to say so I answered his questions as unenthused as I could muster.
Me: Um, Dissatisfied... I guess (lol, see what I did there)
Him: "I feel ya, I can respect that, man". (I could really feel the love.) Then he went on beating the "they're trying to take your guns away" drum pretty hard for a few minutes. I learned the reason I was dissatisfied with Trump was that the "obstructionist liberals and democrats ... led by Billionaire Bloomberg" are hindering Trumps ability to make progress. There are evidently many of "Billionaire Bloomberg's paid trolls and protestors" disrupting trumps agenda and rallies. Lots of boogymen out to get me and my guns. So now I know that it's their fault I don't approve of Trump. Gotcha
And then the real reason he called...
I can offer you a 3 year membership at a $??? Discount! Can I sign you up?
Me: No.
I can offer you a 5 year membership at a $??? Discount! Can I sign you up?
Me: No.
Well Wayne LaPierre has personally authorized me to offer you our $1000 lifetime membership for only $600 to help preserve your rights and counter the threat of liberals and Bloomberg's assault on your 2nd Amendment rights. Can I sign you up today?
Me: No. Is my current Membership expired or something? I don't pay attention to it very much.
Him: No, uhhh, it doesn't expire for another year and a half or so.
Me: Well, I guess I'm fine then... have a nice day. (click)
They must be hard up for money since the orange one got elected and now there's no scary black man or democratic majority around to gin up fears and have scared people send them money anymore.
Full disclosure... I DO have a NRA membership to fulfill a membership requirement at the private fishing/hunting club I belong to. Something about their sporting club insurance which is provided through the NRA requires club members to hold current NRA memberships as well. This is actually not at all uncommon for many private shooting/range clubs across the country. There's not a whole lot of places to shoot longer ranges in the city or suburbs, so this is the nearest place I can enjoy shooting outdoors.

(5,240 posts)My daughter has to have a membership with the NRA also for her local gun club. She gave them her trash email to avoid getting the crazy emails.

(13,340 posts)But the vast majority do. The nicest club does, but I can't bring myself to join it.
We have public ranges here too, run by the state DNR, but the rules are very restrictive, and the shooters are scary.

"They" have been coming for your guns for 35 or so years. All I can say is they must have got lost. My father used to be a member. He quit back in the 80's when they started this crap.

It's like, c'mon guys... you all better hope Bloomberg doesn't die before Trump leaves or you'll be shit out of material to try and peddle.

(1,009 posts)I hate guns, but even I realize no one is going to or wants to take their guns.
It's the assault weapons that are at issue. Unless you are expecting a zombie apocalypse or plan a terrorist attack,
there's no purpose in them except to kill multiple people at a time. But in reality, what they really want them for is
to protect a government such as Trump's or the opposite - protect themselves from a government they perceive
to be the enemy.

(3,110 posts)That's interesting about the hunting/fishing club and the sporting club insurance. That's quite the tie in.
They are looking for money. Greedy bastards. The NRA loves a boogeyman. Amazing you were able to listen to that drivel without projectile vomiting.

(18,740 posts)...yes I have guns and I love to shoot them. I was politically unaware of the NRA and I am sure
Grandpa was as well (he was a southern cop so had lots of guns so I guess he figured why not join?). I got the info from him ( I assume one had to be referred into the 'club'?).. and the first line I read was something about all the anti gun nuts and anti hunting nuts. As politically naïve as I was I STILL knew this was not language of an organization I wanted to be part of. Hated them ever since.

(9,048 posts)Bet they have accidents and cover them up by lying about the location.
Did not happen at the gun club but somewhere else.
Keeps their premiums down.
Gullible members go along with that perhaps?

(544 posts)The NRA is a major provider of firearms and hunting insurance. If you want insurance and guns/shooting are involved, then there's not many other players in town. I suspect insuring a private gun range is also not as expensive as one might expect it to be - considering that guns are getting shot all over the place.
Facts are:
A) Insurance, generally of ANY kind, doesn't cover willfully unlawful actions. If a nutter wants to shoot a bunch of people at a gun range (or even an insured private individual shooting someone at their residence)... insurance wouldn't pay up if it's determined laws were broken.
B) Willfully shooting up a gun club, where they are LITERALLY GUARUNTEED to encounter people that are armed for self defense, is probably a pretty terrible plan on the shooter's part.
C) In general, private ranges have better adherence to safety protocol and accidents rarely happen. I've been there 2 years and have yet to ever see (or hear any stories) of accidental shots let alone firearm accidents where anyone was actually injured. Private ranges are generally WAY better in terms of safety and quality of patrons versus public ranges.
All this combines for pretty low insurance premiums. I don't see why they'd have to resort to insurance fraud.
