It's not so much that he likes what the white supremacists stand for.
Or what anybody stands for.
He only cares that they like him and voted for him.
When trying to analyze anyone that has Trumps level of narcissism, always remember to do so within that framework.
Flattery is his lifeblood. Anybody who says he is great must, therefore, also be great.
It's really that simple.

3. Trump happens to be a racist as well, though.

There's quite a bit of evidence for this. Also, Trump's close ties with Putin mean that Trump is on the same team as the horrifically racist eastern European groups connected to Putin. Note that one of the participants in the Charlottesville hate rally is former Yugoslavia.

Trump himself is a white supremacist and he's part of a murderous group of white supremacists who literally want to take over the world. That's not an exaggeration.
