Weapons have no place at a protest.

(12,618 posts)There is absolutely no law, no rule, no holy writ, that says a person can't defend themselves if attacked. If Gandhi chooses not to, that is his choice and his right and I respect that. That is not my way. I choose to defend myself if attacked. And that is also my right.
Learn to respect that as well. We should not have to be beaten and assaulted just to conform to your ideals of protest. I respect your choice if that's what you choose to do. Respect me and my right to self-defense as well.

(26,316 posts)The British were racist and treated the Indians horribly, but they weren't Nazis.
The British at their worst were not as evil as the Nazis at their best.

(3,613 posts)When peaceful protesters defied a government order and demonstrated against British colonial rule in Amritsar, India, on 13 April 1919, they were blocked inside the walled Jallianwala Gardens and fired upon by Gurkha soldiers.
The soldiers, under the orders of Brigadier Reginald Dyer, kept firing until they ran out of ammunition, killing between 379 and 1,000 protesters and injuring another 1,100 within 10 minutes.
Brigadier Dyer was later lauded a hero by the British public, who raised £26,000 for him as a thank you.

Only those in favor of the Raj thought Dyer was a hero, the British public as a whole despised him for it.
If Nazis had done such a thing, they would have been praised for it by Hitler.

(12,618 posts)The Nazis would kill that many in a few hours, every day, for years on end, in the extermination camps alone. That's not even counting the millions of battlefield casualties they caused. And that was official state policy. The British massacre was an aberration done by a rogue and sadistic indidual, not a part of official state policy.

(811 posts)Antifas did come armed for battle. Not smart, but very (very) stupid for liberals to think these nuts are on "our side."
Antifa helps the Nazis. They should be condemned and driven away from peaceful protests.

(33,029 posts)I have a friend in the Charlottesville who was working diligent for at least the run-up to the event with a muti-faith group to try to ensure folks on our side were peaceful, but they were unable to make a dent in the Antifas insistence on both presence and willingness to use violence as a tool. She was very disheartened.

That's not a demonstration, that's holding a piece of property by force.

(90,638 posts)Doesn't mean you're looking for trouble. Means you're trying not to get harmed. I'm sure Fox and other enablers of racism would love it if people stayed home and never protested against hate. That would make the haters feel as if other people agreed with them.
But you are talking Fox, so...
