(12,894 posts)I know I am living in bizarre times, but when I find myself agreeing with Mitt, it's gone from just bizarre, to down-right surreal.

(37,648 posts)for not toting the Republican banner enough for Trump. But he's doing fine...no shortage of places for him to write for and appear as pundit on tv.

(37,648 posts)who aren't evil thru and thru. Of COURSE the two parties have SOME thoughts and beliefs that are the same.
But I'm struck by how simple and clear Romney's statement is. Those are the words of someone who COULD be a leader. Who had been a governor. It brings home how far the Repub Party has gone. The difference between what could have been a regular Republican President and what we now have, which is a Nazi sympathizer and pathological liar with the attention span of a 3 year old.

(6,926 posts)You can use "pussy grabbing", you can use the instruction to physically remove people with force from his rallies, you can use John McCain not being a hero, you can use the Khan family.
Any of those was good enough to know his character and too many people chose to ignore or accept them. It is hard for me to believe they accepted those examples. It is hard for me to accept them as good people.

(37,648 posts)Republicans are good at elections, is the saying, but they're terrible at governing. Democrats are great at governing, but not so great at elections.
Republicans vote party, time and time again. That's how they keep getting elected. Democrats, OTOH, have a tendency to vote third party more often or not vote at all, like we saw in the last election.
Some of the people voting for Trump were not regular Republicans. He appealed to the populist movement that swept Great Britain and the Brexit vote (which they shortly regretted).
But there is a difference between establishment Republicans, who are bad enough, and this...I don't know what it is...this person and his ilk who are in the White House. Bannon, Trump, etc.

It will be quite a moment when Kelly, McMaster & Mattis go to see Trump & say to him, quoting Cromwell as Leopold Amery did on May 7, 1940:

(343 posts)Yes, I find myself agreeing with the likes of Mitt, George Will, Krauthammer, and others that I never thought I would. It is hard to believe anybody can't see what a menace Trump is. How do you get up in the morning and lick this man's boots? But plenty do. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is one of the worst. Her job is to get up in the morning, get a bucket and clean up the latest vomit from the Orange idiot. And she does it willingly. She, and others enabling Trump should be ashamed of themselves. Money and power are not worth selling your soul for. Real Americans in Congress, if there are any on the GOP side, should be working to impeach Trump or use the 25th amendment to remove him. Hell, I'd take Pence over Trump, and that is enough to make me choke.

(37,648 posts)for not toting the Republican banner enough, when Trump started to rise. He has not been silent and is one of the most prolific voices against him.
Most people, it seems, are drawn to the flame of power and money. We see it in action. Minions cowtow to the liar in chief, knowing full well what he is and stands for, because he is powerful & has money.
Remember when LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act, and said when he signed it that the Dems had just lost the south? He signed it, even tho it was bad politics, bad for his party, because it was the right thing to do. We don't have anyone like that, anymore.
