I'm Going Out on a Limb Here. I Predict Trump will Resign by the End of the Year: Scenario Included
This is a reprint of my post from Aug. 6, 2017. Could the meeting at camp David be about this? could the time table be moved up?
This is a reprint of a post from me that was before most of us even knew that there would be demonstrations in Virginia.
My Prediction:
Sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas 2017, Donald Trump will address the nation. He will open with a string of grievances, which will include but not be limited to, the press distorting his actions, the "deep state" undermining him, the Republicans abandoning him, the Democrats obstructing him, the intelligence agencies conspiring against him and probably many more.
This will be as a result of pending indictments against many of Trump's associates and family members. The investigation not only threatens them, but the Trump businesses as well. His frustration that he can't control events and that circumstances are spiraling into areas that cause him fear will be overwelming.
As a result, his speech will then lead him to declare scores of Presidential pardons, which will include dozens of the aforementioned family, friends and associates, effectively shutting down the Russian investigation.
Trump then will announce his resignation, with the understanding that Pence, once he is sworn in as President will then pardon Trump (I.E. Gerald Ford's Nixon pardon).
I really can't see this thing ending any other way.

(16,423 posts)Why would Trump cut losses before he has to? Maybe he will dole out pardons and resign and be pardoned by Pence, but that will happen not at the beginning of the indictment-process.
Trump will cling to power as long as possible. If your scenario does happen, Trump will keep it as an ace up his sleeve until the last moment.

(36,926 posts)And he probably can't be indicted while president. So that's why I think he'll hang onto the presidency as long as he can. That doesn't mean he won't be driven out of office. I think he will, one way or another.

(7,768 posts)Cue New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. He's going to nail his ass, seize all his assets and put him in prison on RICO charges. Only the Governor can grant a pardon on state charges. The Governor of NY is Andrew Cuomo. Ain't gonna happen, pal.

(3,728 posts)trump will NEVER willingly give up power. He'd sooner hold up in the Oval Office a la Warden Norten in The Shawshank Redemption.

(4,407 posts)But reality is a bitch. The repubs in Congress and State Houses almost all condemned racism, but not the President. 70% of Republican voters still support him even after the ugliest display by a President in modern history.
Trump's biggest fear is looking like a loser. He won't see any scenario involving the words "I quit" that is compatible with his sick ego.
I wish you were right, but I can't see it happening.

(2,073 posts)The Republicans in Congress find Trump oh, so convenient. He provides extremely valuable political cover and distraction.
If there are indictments for Trump they will probably fall under obstruction. I doubt he himself actually colluded with Russia, but his circle? They're all going down, including (especially) Pence.
He won't resign, because that means quitting. Every day he is in office is winning, and he's going to stay as long as he can.

(253 posts)That Pence will be one of the ones caught up in the indictments -possibly Ryan too. The resignation technically will be not T.rump's choice rather a necessity to avoid a long impeachment process. Indicting members of his family is key.

(16,254 posts)I predict that after all the facts come out regarding Trump's business practices/tax evasion/money laundering, he will do himself in. There is no way he could live seeing the disappointment on Ivanka's face. Granted, she probably knows most of the facts, but to actually see Daddy go down will crush any illusions she might have. Besides, he would never make it through one day in prison.
Trump may give the impression he is a macho-macho man, but he is truly an insecure and weak human being (that being questionable, most of the time). When I picture him all alone at night, I picture a frightened little boy in a fetal position sucking his thumb. When push comes to shove, he will have to exit, stage right.
