(3,233 posts)but especially so now. The good guys showed up.
If I weren't living in a cabin in a forest I'd be there, too.
Here's a hug for you.

(15,442 posts)I do think the people who did it need to be held accountable to the law, but this is a really great thing.
MuseRider
(35,176 posts)people doing that either. It is so much better and makes a bigger statement if they stand together and demand their local government do it. They do not need these statues for remembering history, it is absurd.
When watching the video they all looked like students. I remember feeling very connected to my friends during the Vietnam war. We protested but never were violent or destructive but I do remember those feelings of being in a group with such an emotional tie. These days acting out seems the norm and is not always a good thing.
All in all I can forgive them with all the recent uprising and fear and anger but yes, they do need to think it out a little better. Acting on sheer emotion might feel good but I am not certain it gets the real point across well. Times have changed, this may just be my inner fuddy duddy speaking.
not a fuddy duddy.
The pretty clearly got caught up in the moment, but you are right, have to do it the right way, get active in working to have it taken down by the local government.

(90,312 posts)That, they are! I can only guess that there are probably millions of other Americans who are there with them in spirit.
And the law that I think Virginia has on the books now, thanks to the GOP, that mandates those "monuments" not be touched or defaced or removed - THAT has to be done away with, TOO. How many other state legislatures in the South have laws like that on the books? ALL of such stupid-ass laws have to be done away with. Left in the garbage. With those hurtful mementos of slavery, division, human degradation, and TREASON.

(11,481 posts)Clog up the court system. I just talked to a couple of young comrades today who were both arrested, one in D.C. on Inauguration Day and one at Standing Rock and they BOTH asked for jury trials. Instead the charges against both were dropped during their first appearance. Well first appearance after they made bond anyway.
That's the idea with mass civil disobedience like this. You make the system incapable of handling the traffic.
MichMan
(17,237 posts)Trying to understand the logic here
1) "I was wasn't charged with any crime, but arrest me anyway because I did it"
followed by;
2) "I plead not guilty and demand a jury trial because I didn't do it"
