In the small town in Germany where Nazi leader Rudolf Hess was born, every year right wing activists have been showing up to commemorate his birthday. Counter marches didn't stop them. What really got to them was when people organized to sponsor donations on their behalf, treating their march like an AIDS walk. For every meter marched, there would be 10 euros donated to anti-racist organizations. People then turned it into kind of a sports event as they showed up with banners and music cheering the facists on like "Thank you for marching for racial justice" and updating with bullhorns how much money the facists marching had already raised.- Yannik Thiem

It's a great idea. The only problem I see is that in Germany the Nazis probably wouldn't fight because they'd be way outnumbered. Here I'm not so sure. If it happened, we'd really have to outnumber them big time to keep them in check. Germany has a very outspoken but peaceful public.

I was thinking of something similar about the Confederate statues. They should put them in a museum and charge people to get in to see them (that reminds me of Joni Mitchell's Big Yellow Taxi!). The money goes to college scholarships for students at HBCs (historically black colleges) or something along that line. Those people fought to make life even more miserable for those stolen from Africa, this could give something small but positive to the descendants.

Sounds like a winner. And you know how Americans are, we will make it a REALLY big sports event. I can see it now the bands, vendor booths, dancers... If we make a mockery of them it could be very effective. Laugh at them with their silly helmets, shields, batons and dress code.

who did this when the Westboro church people showed up, too. They gave money to pro-LGBT causes.

35. It was done in my home town to a Wannabe group 50 miles away

more than a decade ago. Making a big stir coming to the evil college town. I think they came no more than two times.

If I recall people manned a donation board (like the United way) to keep track, during the protest, based on how much time the group stayed of all the money raised.
