This may seem petty to some or it may remind others of Newt Gingrich's words to describe Democrats in 1994? It doesn't matter. I believe we need to fight back and attack Republicans at their weakest point. That would be their supporters.
A few words I can think of right off the top of my head are: insane, weak, pathetic, unpatriotic, uncaring, unsympathetic, tools of the elite, haters of America, greedy, blissfully ignorant, arrogant, and to borrow a couple from Gingrich, pathetic and disgusting.
I think we should use these words at every opportunity because they are not going to be persuaded by facts or logic or common sense. They are a bunch of brain-washed pygmies.
They should be criticized and ridiculed. They should be discouraged and demoralized. They would do the same for you. This is a war for our survival.

(24,853 posts)Your OP concerned the way people vote. I know plenty of people who vote R and I don't think I'd use any of the hateful adjectives I see in your post or most of its replies to describe them.
I responded to a post the other day which made the claim that "the majority of republicans would gladly see us dead or in concentration camps". It also said that they happily say so in public. That's making the claim that around 32 million people regularly say in public that they'd have no problem putting Dems in concentration camps or simply killing them outright. While your OP doesn't quite rise to that level of hyperbole, it does claim that "This is a war for our survival." I'm assuming you mean Democrats in general, and should a republican win the White House we will cease to exist as a party and/or as individuals. That kind of thinking is simply a little too extreme for me. It's almost like the posts after the election in 2008 making claims to the effect that the republican party was drawing its last breaths.
Sure, some who vote republican can be described as you and some of the other posters see them. I try not to over-generalize though and will never give up hope that sooner or later everyone can be influenced in such a way so as to see the light.
That's why I'll stop at describing people who vote republican as misguided and resist the urge to dehumanize them.

(111,272 posts)That is very admirable that you believe that. But I think it is naive. I'm sure when Newt was making his list of words to describe Democrats and Liberals, he did not think every Democrat or every liberal was "pathetic and disgusting". It was a propaganda war and they won. They are still waging that war. In this environment, I don't see either Party coming to the table to discuss the issues in a rational and adult manner anytime soon. They would impeach Barack Obama tomorrow if they could. They would destroy SS, Medicare, SS Disability, food stamps, and whatever program that they consider "Democratic" tomorrow, if they could. Yes, they are a threat to our survival. I think we should fight them with everything at our disposal, short of violence. If we can ridicule them, depress them, discourage them, demoralize them, then that is fair game.

Socialists, Communists, Liberals, Women, Minorities, who are taking their money and playthings away to give to scary poor people. It's funny how these "strong individualists" always clamor for a "Strong Leader" to lead them to safety.

He said she looked sour after that...

(111,272 posts)I understand the unsavory nature of attacking your opponents with such words. But if they are out to destroy you, which I think they are if their policies are passed into law, then I think we have every right to defend ourselves. And I think this is the best way to do it in a non-violent way. They have declared war on us, whether we know it or not.

(53,661 posts)Venality is a vice associated with being bribeable or of selling one's services or power, especially when one should act justly instead. In its most recognizable form, dishonesty, venality causes people to lie and steal for their personal advantage, and is related to bribery and nepotism, among other vices.
Every bagger that has gotten into office has sold his honor to the highest bidder under the cover of false ideology an installed their unqualifed family to feed off the public trough to do them favors, which is nepotism.
Venality in its mild form is a vice notable especially among those with government or military careers. In these fields, one is supposed to act with justice and honor and not accept bribes. That ensures that the organization is not susceptible to self-interested parties. For people to accept settlements and legislation, the acts of the government must be seen as just. This perception enhances the legitimacy of the government.
Their disdain for the public in the laws they pass is obvious, just as their hatred for government regulation. They intend to plunder so they resist good governance and claim all government is evil, in order to get the public to turn a blind eye to what they do.
Venality is a term often used with reference to pre-revolutionary France, where it describes the then-widespread practice of selling administrative positions within the government to the highest bidder, especially regarding the Nobles of the Robe.
See my reference to nepotism, then consider DHS, DOD, etc. contracting and all the other bastardizations of agencies to feed directly into the hands of the rich, and their push for privatization. Not to make life better for citizens, but only their own cabals.

I've almost given up on the human race watching these slugs turned thugs spew their hatred and distortions on the rest of us. I can actually see why people seek riches in order to escape this coarse, cruel, mindless mob.

(14,177 posts)Like Mitt Robme, he really is the worst. I remember a lot of people thought he was the sane moderate. I wasn't fooled. As soon as I heard about Seamus, I knew he was the worst of the bunch even if we didn't know what else he did at the time. This was before Baingate, before Barbergate, before Troopergate, and before his eloquent Lemon, wet, good speech. Now, there are people that will support this guy for President when most of them wouldn't even want him for a neighbor.
So, I really don't know what to call people that would support that. Like the blind guy I heard on the bus that will support him, even though Robme would surely take away some of his SS benefits. Or the guy next to him that was talking to him clearly not in his right mind who also gets disability and SS benefits that Robme wouldn't hesitate to cut. Or a conservative friend of mine who was in the marines who supports Republicans even though they love slashing entitlements for military personnel. Or some Mexican-Americans I know that would support him because he isn't likely to give any kind of amnesty to anyone including children who were brought here years ago by their parents and know no other way of life.
It is really hard to put into words what kind of people don't just vote against their own interest. I can get over that, but they vote against their children, their families, their friends, and neighbors. Even if you hate Obama, how could you vote for someone that will try their best to eliminate the safety net for millions of people, especially in this economy. It is cruel beyond belief and it is a life and death matter for some people.

(1,925 posts)Is there a state of arousal where they get a charge out of more and more hate filled, negative anti Obama rhetoric...
Until some are truely unreachable..
Like the ass of a woman I met who was loaned a book at church... (I'm in Canada)
She started off, Obama isn't a Christian! ( didn't say I didn't care abt that).. She followed on that he may be a Muslim..
And he could bring Socialism!!! She was shaking in fear...
I said, "I've had cancer and I didn't have to mortgage the house for treatment..here in Ontario"
She settled right down... But it just shows how some people are easily manipulated..
So how to get through that veil is another problem.

(18,807 posts)Some other people in the thread have landed around that - "fear-driven," "fear-mongering," etc. - but I do think a lot of it boils down to simply "afraid."
Doing something about that, whether pushing it to demoralize people or trying to address it now and then to calm a few people down enough to stop helping make society self-destruct, is a whole other matter, but I'm pretty much convinced that fear is the main motivator for things in the last decade, possibly the last generation or so.
