How is painting a swastika on a dog's head a "joke"?

PHOENIX - A North Phoenix woman was stunned when her neighbor’s dog showed up on her doorstep with a swastika painted on its head.

The homeowner, who spoke with 12 News off camera, is half Hispanic with three adopted children of mixed race.

Glendale police responded to check on the dog because of concerns it might be neglected.

The dog’s owners told police they drew the symbol on the dog as a joke.

Under any circumstances, this is not a joke. Considering it is only a couple days after Charlottesville, these idiots need to be locked up.

not sure what they used to paint stuff on the dog's head, but I'm assuming it was nothing harmful.

Few brain cells is not an excuse but it might be an explanation for the utter stupidity.

Let's assume it's just ignorance and make it a teaching moment. I think even those actual freaking Nazis don't know what the German ones did, they think it was propaganda they don't know what the piles of bodies of fellow human beings were real. Even the violent murderous ones haven't actually confronted the true depth of the crimes of Hitler and the Germans. It's why they can wrap themselves in that flag, its why they use those slogans.

Shove it in their faces and see how "funny" they think what they did actually is, I'm thinking that after throwing up a bit they'll learn that it's not.

Some time watching videos of the liberation of the concentration camps, a visit to a holocaust memorial center, and some time with a survivor and some Hindus to explain what the symbol's actual meaning is.

They must have been following the news to some extent. This act did not come out of nowhere. It's just that they don't care. They think painting Nazi symbols on their dog and terrorizing their neighbor is hilarious. Kind of like phoning in a bomb threat is super funny.

That act came from a place of complete ignorance, and they need to see face to skeletal face what people flying that flag were doing to fellow human beings. I think they don't know that, our education system is terrible and we're seeing the evidence of that (not just in the right wingers).

They need someone to sit them down and explain, basically an appeal to decency and an eradication of any future claims of ignorance.
