The owner's R nature finally revealed today. He started popping off about the statues getting taken down, and the next thing would be Washington. Because he owned slaves. Through a mouthful of breakfast, I said, "Washington didn't start a war against America." When I swallowed, I said, "Lee didn't even want the statues. And they were erected in the Jim Crow era." He said we couldn't talk politics and called me a liberal. I didn't pursue it because he was a jerk. Luckily, we were headed out. No one else said anything, but I wasn't pelted with fruit. Lol

he was talking about online reviews, said someone gave him a 4, said it would have been a 5 but the host was an r. Ha. I didn't pick the place, my friend did. I am home now, and so glad to be back!

I don't think he was around at the time to be consulted. You probably lost your B&B host with the name "Jim Crow". He may not have know about the laws that carry that name/characterization.

I've given up arguing with the Rs at the fitness club. To be fair, they've given up on me, too. Peace prevails.

I said Washington didn't declare war on America. (my own opinion)
I said Lee didn't want the statues. (saw 2 stories about letters Lee wrote after the Civil War)
I said most of the statues were erected during the Jim Crow era. (heard this on the news)

Even though Jackson was a close friend, Lee declined and came out against memorializing the Confederacy. The article and Lee's own words have been posted here on DU a lot recently.

The reason for wanting the statues to be taken down is not just because they glorify slave owners. It is because they were traitors who took up arms against the US and started a civil war. So shitgibbon was lying and his minions are repeating the lie.

I don't think businesses are the proper place for politics. The people running this place had plenty of friends in the neighborhood. When we sat on the porch, people passing by would say hi to the owners if they saw them. So the owners had other ways of sharing their opinions.

LOTS of people manage it all across the country. That B&B owner deserves nothing but scorn as well as a failing business. If he/she can't avoid being offensive for that short of a time frame they do not belong in the hospitality industry.
