I'm seeing a Romney splat. GOP operatives are pressing Romney to disclose returns and implode now- even Fox is jumping on board. http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002949263
The GOP convention is August 27-30. Perhaps they want a floor fight instead of a cheerleading session? This would be planning time for which way to go for the Powers that Be.
Maybe they have decided to depose the Anointed One. I'm just curious who they are thinking could step in at this phase of the game?
Any thoughts?
Edit for more of R's calling for disclosure with links.

(16,113 posts)The people calling the shots all along knew they could never get "their guy" through a primary, so they go through the motions to clear the field leaving only Romney with a plan to oust Romney before the convention and bring in their person. Obama's team probably would have recommended holding this information back until the fall, if this was their doing, but for those looking to block Romney, now is the time to put this out. Yes, it's a little tin-foil-hattery, but I wouldn't put anything past them.

(16,113 posts)If this was the plan, it's probably someone you haven't heard much about yet, but the name will start popping up in the next 3 weeks.

(5,995 posts)Whoever they pick was likely the one that set it all up to become the white knight. The ones with the built in organization would be the BFEE, so my guess would be Jeb.

(16,113 posts)It's not so much the repuke primary voters that think * fucked up, but the independents and democrats. I think Jeb would stand a far better chance in the primary than the GE. Maybe someone like Mitch Daniels or Susana Martinez (who wouldn't stand a chance in a primary, but might be able to pull in more independents in the GE).

(50,414 posts)And, even a catastrophe, (another 9/11, complete economic meltdown, assassination of the prez) is a last gasp prayer in that even if one were to occur, the Republicans would still have nothing to offer.
A real scandal in the White House, real criminal activity, is unlikely at best.
Other than those, they might as well work on saving the Republican party from dissolving into a replay of the Whigs.
I imagine they're now pinning their hopes (delusions) on some sort of eye-catching VP pick...which considering the field of Republicans (Barking Mad to Just Plain DumbI) is laughable.
This election has turned into a yawner.

(44,397 posts)flurry of a few months ago was forgotten. Romney got some bad press by avoiding any direct condemnation of Rush Limbaugh. That's no longer discussed.

(10,170 posts)just recently. I'm not thinking the war on women is at all forgotten, just dwarfed by the felony possibilities and the high traction of the withheld tax forms in light of business and tax implications.
