(8,254 posts)to the ancestral tribes of those that made the artifacts?

(5,622 posts)the tribes would care so much about bowls and arrowheads. But I don't know for sure. Possibly they have enough of these artifacts themselves. Also I don't think the Iroquois were a tribe 10,000 years ago. Additionally, these artifacts are there for anyone to find. And he did do archeological digs of his own initiative, so his own time and effort went into that. I also assume anyone can do their own archeological dig.

(8,254 posts)u end up with some hefty fines.... it is against the law to even pick up artifacts laying on top of the ground on any tribal or public land. nor the high water mark on any flowing water stream or beach,,,,much less do a "dig". I dont think the tribes want more artifacts-- they dont want them disturbed ,,, and the ancestors of modern day tribes go back farther than 10,000 years.
ancient people were as trashy as modern ones, most surface scatter is just trash or lost objects. nothing sacred or ceremonial about it.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
