Please spread the word: Texas residents have until before September 1st to

grandfather their hurricane claim or it will fall under under a new more insurance company friendly law passed last Spring and signed by Republican Governor Greg Abbott. It limits the interest charged against the insurance company from when they should have paid the claim to when they finally do. From 18% to prime plus 5% (roughly 10%). It makes it next to impossible to file in state court so almost all will go into federal court which can get stuck in one court (MDL) and tied up. Also new notice requirements before you can file suit...

Lastly, please notify your representatives to make sure the National Flood Insurance Program gets reauthorized and properly funded next month. The Trump administration wanted to gut it and it is already $24 billion in the hole due to Katrina, Rita, Sandy and others.

Please tell your friends on FB and especially your friends affected in Texas!!!

so they will have to change it back and then some! We are a public policy firm because we like to make positive changes for the American people. Sounds corny but it feels good. We got a law passed called "Remember the 15" which was to eliminate the refineries being able to put work trailers staffed with workers right next to the units. 15 people died in one in the BP Texas City explosion in 2005. We also saw to it that BP was fined $50,000,000 for their violations and charged with felonies for submitting fraudulent documents to a government agency. None of that was something we had to do to get our clients their money, but it was the right thing to do.

We will make Gov Abbott and the Republican legislators pay for selling out Texans!

I don't know how the insurance laws work in Texas, but in Florida you really need your own adjuster. After Hurricane Wilma hit, my insurance company wanted me to repair my water logged kitchen cabinets and re-hang them. I hired a public adjuster and they more than tripled my claim. In Florida the max the adjuster can charge you is 10% of your settlement. It was well worth the fee to have a professional represent me to my insurance company.

We experienced the eye of Harvey and strong cat. 2 winds. We did not suffer damage, however, some of my uninformed republican neighbors did not fare so well. I am letting them know the situation and reminding them who pushed the bill and who signed the legislation. It is hypocrisy that the Governor received a healthy insurance settlement to cover him after his accident. Now he wants to make it harder for citizens to get timely payment for their insurance claims.
