(31,308 posts)they were my first donation. Second was the Houston food bank.
i know Red Cross has the infrastructure and personnel and all, but i always balk because i fear it is also a corrupt organization. it's always good to know that my small donations will do good and not just line someone's pockets.
another thing just came to mind: how soon can they hope to get these donations with the airport shut down and the streets flooded? maybe i'll stick to cash after all...

(13,640 posts)I sent kitty litter, compliments of my kitty. It takes just a little longer to order because you have to enter your c.c. # since it's not being delivered to your address. But a great way to help out!

(6,344 posts)The Amazon purchases are at regular cost. If we donate to the organizations they can stretch the money further with things like buying wholesale and large quantity discounts etc.
I learned that from the Red Cross of how that works.
I appreciate the post and seeing the items they need. It motivates to make my $$$ donation to the animal relief organizations.
Thank you!!!

Excellent post, excellent idea - have donated to Red Cross, and coordinated volunteers heading that way. What a great way to inexpensively do more.

The items go to Merritt Law Firm LLC who is sponsoring the list on behalf of Houston families.
Lee Merritt ( @MeritLaw ), nationally known Civil Rights lawyer.
If you put what you want to buy in your shopping cart, then access Amazon through http://smile.amazon.com , Amazon will donate to a charity.
You can also use the list as a guide and just purchase items from elsewhere to donate if you have an idea of where to send them or if you are near Houston.
