Trojan??

Last edited Wed Aug 30, 2017, 02:34 PM - Edit history (1)

So this showed up when my screen image froze, purports to be from Microsoft. Obviously, I was able to open everything in another window. But I'd like to get rid of the "frozen" screen, it won't let me "X" out.
Any suggestions?

---posting this in GD in case others are having the same issue---

UPDATE: I did the control-alt-delete to task manager and ended the browser; the thing went away.

Thanks for all the help, DUers rock!

physically if need be. Restart your computer and that should be gone. This is a scam.

8. According the the internets, it's pop-up adware to get you to download spyware.

There are various ways of getting rid of adware pop-ups, most of which require you restart in safe mode after you've found a good spyware/adblock program.
I tend to use Microsoft security essentials and an adblock program, so I haven't had to deal with this, but a good starting point is to look up the RDN/Trojan.worm Infection pop-up and see what's out there to remove it safely.
But it doesn't really do anything until activated, so you're still good for now.

From Virus Research.org.

The RDN/Trojan.worm Infection pop-up is an annoying message. Take it as a sign. A sign that your computer needs to be cleaned immediately. The adware behind this pop-up is quite hazardous. It is trying to lure you into downloading questionable software.

Other people will probably chime in with a better recommendation, but I'll at least commiserate with you...

will launch your task manager. All your running apps will be listed. Click/highlight your browser's name and then click end task. It will close the program. Then relaunch your browser.

They get you to let them have remote access and if you don't buy the BS software they offer they will delete personal files and change your logon password.

My sister in law fell for it. She didn't have much on her hard drive so I did a factory reset on it.
