A former history prof I talk to and this older bearded white guy were talking history and she was making comparisons between drumpf and Harding when I chimed in that at least Harding wasn't crazy. Now if a MAGAT (MAGA Trumpist) is a red hat wearer so as to be obvious I stay away from them and talking politics generally but I assumed this guy wasn't one. Wrong. He became pissed and started talking about how drumpf had fixed the economy and the VA and I started hitting him - with the facts.
Usually I don't bother since they are like paranoid schizophrenics who think the CIA is after them so does no good to use facts. But I was already in it with him and kept at it. He got up, left in a huff mumbling words and left the park. Then I sat down with the professor and she filled me in on some relevant history (apparently Aristophanes' play The Knights is applicable to today) and we had a nice long talk while the dogs played. It was a good day at the dog park.

(905 posts)end the confrontation in a huff. BUT they cannot unheard the facts once it's put to them. They can deny the facts, ignore the facts, trash the facts but they cannot unheard them. And once heard the words enter into the inner man and haunts the hell out of them. Sometimes driving them to join hooded marches and don their AK-47 or spit fire. Most of the most vocal idiots have heard some of the facts and that is what enrages them. In their rage, they think they can change the facts and when they can't, they make up shit like, Bowling Green, and Obama being President during Katrina and out golfing instead of being in LA.
Face it, they are lost and unredeemable.

(17,984 posts)I'm really curious now. What kind of dog did the MAGAT own?
Bradshaw3

(17,984 posts)or some other small and annoying dog. I guess my theory about judging who is a likely MAGAT by what dogs they own is blown.

(7,516 posts)The cattle dog mixes tend to be the most aggressive and controlling, so a MAGAT would like that. They also seem to favor the pit bull mixes.
ProudLib72
(17,984 posts)Rather than single out breeds. I have a cattle dog mix, and he is high strung but nice. He would bite the hell out of tRump (or any one of his supporters).

(15,543 posts)From CLASSICAL LITERATURE:
The Knights (Gr: Hippeis) is a comedy by the ancient Greek playwright Aristophanes. It won first prize at the Lenaia festival when it was produced in 424 BCE.
The play is a satire on political and social life in 5th Century BCE Athens, and in particular a diatribe against the pro-war populist politician, Cleon. In the play, a sausage-seller, Agoracritus, vies with Paphlagonian (representing Cleon) for the confidence and approval of Demos (an elderly man who symbolizes the Athenian citizenry) and Agoracritus emerges triumphant from a series of contests and miraculously restores Demos to his former youth and glory...
...After a shouting match between Cleon and the sausage-seller, in which each man strives to demonstrate that he is a more shameless and unscrupulous orator than the other, the Knights proclaim the sausage-seller the winner, and Cleon storms off to denounce them all ...

(11,949 posts)The article did not take on single political position. It did not criticize anyone or any side.
It simply talked about brain science.
Sound like he is a typical person. Deep down he knows he is wrong, but he weighs that fact vs the pain it will cause him to admit the errors of his ways and just double downs on the asshole.
Have a nice evening.

(7,516 posts)There's one who always wears his hat and tries to talk to me but I just walk away. Fuck him for his vote and for continuing to wear that fucking hat.
My dog is a rescue who looks most like a Flatcoat retriever but is probably a mix of lab, retriever and border collie. Just a mutt but the best dog I've ever been around - loves people, dogs, ferrets, llamas, even cats. Just a 60-pound puppy. Thanks for asking.
