It's 29 degrees here in Austin, TX. We are expecting more Ice over night and then BOOM! The polar plunge commences... It'll be 10 degrees tomorrow night with snow.
I've got a gas fireplace, so i I lose power atleast I'll have warmth! This is the craziest winter weather Central Texas has ever seen!
How about you?

(2,234 posts)Were having an actual winter here for the first time in about five years. It has snowed almost every day in February. We have 7-8 on the ground right now with another 6-8 coming starting Sunday night.
Hubster made a huge kettle of his Hungarian grandmothers vegetable soup. A couple weeks ago, I found the snow boots that had been in hiding and unneeded for years.
Stay safe!

(128,785 posts)Went for a walk today; my mask iced up and my eyelashes froze together. But it's not really that bad, for here.

Stay Warm!

(128,785 posts)You have to dress for it; if you have the right clothes it's not a problem. Layer your clothes; wear wool or synthetics rather than cotton; keep your head warm and cover exposed skin as much as possible. And keep moving. If you have to drive somewhere away from a city, keep a winter safety kit in your car. https://www.almanac.com/content/winter-car-emergency-kit

(3,131 posts)when Im walking around southern Arizona this summer and laugh. At least its a dry heat.
Its one thing I miss about real winters. Like you meant, you can dress for the cold. Bottles of ice, a big hat, finding shade, going slow and avoiding the hottest hours is all you can do for heat when walking.
I love cold raining days. Hot sunny ones not so much.

(16,454 posts)Unfortunately they will be sleet and freezing rain fests. We've already gotten about 35" this season in snow. After that we drop again to highs in the 20s, but that isn't uncommon in Connecticut.

(14,118 posts)next 5 days. It is winter but I was just getting used to our spring weather! I don't even want to
think about losing power since we're all electric! We do have lots of clothes, blankets and
cold-weather experience!

(1,725 posts)Temp is currently 27 degrees - it's been low 20's as a high for a week now. Snow / ice not even a hint of melting. But next week - cold front peaks at 16 high, 6 degrees low, then warms up to mid 30s by Friday. Thank goodness! Last few winters have spoiled us.

(9,298 posts)Now 28 degrees, 10 percent chance of snow. Ice is everywhere. We are running out of salt at all of our local stores. Lost power, half a day but our gas fireplace made it bearable. Power back, and were all staying in.
Dogs arent happy about going out. Thankfully we have doggie pads in front of the back yard.

(34,013 posts)I doubt if we're gonna get snow...
I'll be pleasantly surprised, because I'm not going anywhere.
It's kinda misty and since it's below freezing, we are currently under a winter storm warning.
