(27,172 posts)is not an example of positive thinking. It's an example of delusional thinking.
And Democrats taking back control of anything is highly unlikely in 2018. That's just being realistic, althoughI do hope I'm wrong.

(25,198 posts)we won't get the control until 2019, so I have to ask you to reconsider your OP.
Second, I have a feeling that there will be greater polarization (yes, I really believe that's possible) in the Congress. Trump will finance primary campaigns against GOP'ers who have not bowed sufficiently to him, and some of those challengers will be successful, and some of them will be in districts that cannot elect a Democratic representative, at least not until after the 2020 Census.
Clearly, we will try to elect people who are dead set in opposing the Trump agenda, even more so than the Democratic members we have now. It will probably mean another two years of even more acrimonious deadlock, but that's what it takes to get through to the 2020 election, when we hopefully have a presidential candidate who can win a majority of Electoral College votes.

(25,198 posts)as far as legislatures go, we are still stuck with whatever gerrymandering took place after the 2010 Census. I do hope that we'll have some pickups in 2018, as a number of states skew their elections for governor to not coincide with the presidential election years.
We're in for a tough time of political stagnation for quite some time, I'm afraid.

(71,040 posts)a district is gerrymandered. Kennedy always said he would vote to end gerrymandering if there was a formula to determine if a district was gerrymandered...I think it could happen. We will know in June. In any case, gerrymanders don't last forever. And this one is showing signs of slipping in some areas. If we get governorships, we can stop them from continuing to gerrymander....we face another ten years if we don't. The census is coming in 20.

(71,040 posts)taste it. With a normal electorate, we would be looking at a wave election, but we are still gerrymandered. Thus I hope we can pull it out, but it is going to take all hands on deck to win. We have to get out their and work for 18 and fight. If we could get the Senate, it would be great. Now if we have a wave election, we might see the Democrats keep all seats and maybe gain a couple. Although as others have pointed out...the Senate is not in our favor. If we could manage the Senate though, we could stop anymore right wing appointments which would be a huge victory...and of course if we lose seats, we lose Obamacare.
