Thinking of Joel Olstean I watched Dr. Phil today and he gave a plug for the Red Cross

and said that he and his wife were donating $25,000

He is worth 400 million

$25,000 is .0000625 of 400 million

So I took my income, (and yeah you can figure it out from this calculation but I don't care) and multiplied by .000625

I got $2.40

2 dollars and fucking 40 cents is what this guy gave comparatively.

The filthy rich have a mental disease

I gave the to the Houston area United Way, it does have a separate fund for hurricane recovery. I figured the agencies it supports will be dealing with the aftermath long after the Red Cross and others have gone home.

I think it was on the CBS Morning news show:

Donations go into a general fund,
rather than one specific to a cause,
such as hurricane Harvey.

since you used his net worth.

I was thinking of donating $30 which is admittedly only about 0.0002 of my net worth. Now I think I will hold off on that, not sure I can trust the charity,

Won't presume to make any recommendations , but everyone should take some time with all the internet information available, to check out what charities are worth the contributions. Years ago I did phone solicitations for several well-known charities through one of the telemarketing services, and immediately learned how much of the contributions were lost : charities taking the easy way to raise money. "United Fund" type organizations also take a lot of your contribution. As to the worth of celebrity contributions: sad the economic disparity today makes paltry celebrity contributions sound impressive to the average person, who is probably giving a greater percentage of their income.

...give up the cost of a Macaroni and Cheese dinner to help others... Dr. Phil and hid wife can write off their $25,000 and have and extra piece of pie after their dinner. Still, the public thinks Dr. Phil must be a wonderful man to donate all that money.
