I have just three words for General Kelly: "Tina Left Ike."During a recent dressing down by President Donald Trump, new White House Chief of Staff John Kelly told aides that hes never been spoken to like that in his whole military career.
According to a report by the New York Times, Kelly reportedly told sources close to a fight between the president and his chief of staff in August that he wont tolerate such behavior again.
After lashing out at Kelly when staffers gently suggested [Trump] refrain from injecting politics into day-to-day issues of governing after last months raucous rally in Arizona, he lashed at Kelly, who happened to be the most senior aide in his presence.
Kelly reacted calmly, but he later told other White House staff members that he had never been spoken to like that during 35 years of serving his country, three sources close to the fight told the Times. In the future, he said, he would not abide such treatment.

(15,543 posts)republican "family values" as well as their so-called "business values" totally suck.
The republican Draft-Dodger-in-Chief has already insulted and demeaned the service of America's veterans, in particular a man who endured imprisonment, and a woman who gave her limbs in service to America. Now the republican Casino Sharpie is insulting and demeaning a freaking General. That's wrong.
Some sorry-ass twisted shit going down since the russians helped the republicans steal power. But the republicans obviously think this demeaning of our Veterans and General Kelly is OK. Not so much as a whimper or a whine from the Subby Pubbys in Congress. Sick. Sad. Sick and sad.

(18,837 posts)...my point is that if he won't abide Trump's behavior, he has two choices. Abide Trump's behavior, or leave...because Trump's not changing. The word "respect" simply isn't in his vocabulary.

(16,850 posts)If I was in his position, I certainly wouldn't eat that shit sandwich on a daily basis! Like you said though, if you're going to stay in the position, you know what you're getting so complaining is useless!

(18,837 posts)Decades ago, I worked in a warehouse. There were two major sections...I worked on the side where we pulled and packed data sheets, manuals, brochures and such for our clients. The other side was "Mechanical," where they did bulk mailings.
This amounted to two completely different sets of alpha males (very few women worked in the company at the time, mostly in a separate hand-insert department...that changed in the years that followed).
The "Mechanical" guys were hard-drinking folks. They had a SEPARATE refrigerator for beer only. That's right, folks...in the mid-to-late 70s, you could operate heavy-duty mass mailing machinery with a cigarette hanging out of your mouth and a Coors at your fingertips.
The guys on my side were more of a stoner crowd. We drank a little here and there, but we were sons of the herb.
We were East and West, North and South...we didn't particularly care for them, they didn't particularly care for us.
The company's owner had the brilliant decision to shift one of the managers from the Mechanical department to manager of our department.
On day 1, he walked us through the department and pointed out all of the things that displeased him, and capped one of his rants off with "I will not tolerate this."
We all silently looked back and forth at each other, but rest assured...it was a mass solidarity "kiss my ASS" moment.
We did everything we could from that moment on to undermine, circumvent, ignore and generally screw with this guy in ways so subtle that he never felt the sting until the scorpion was miles away.
And, within a couple of months, he realized he had no control over his department, and that it really wasn't his department at all...he was just sort of visiting. So he pulled us all into a room, fell on his sword, apologized for being a dick and asked us to work with him. And from that day on, we did.
He was actually a decent, funny guy underneath it all...he was simply a hardass, and he learned that a hardass wasn't going to play in a group of guys who had elevated THC levels in their systems and just wanted to peacefully pack their boxes for eight hours a day and go home.
A few years after that, I had received several promotions, and he was in a different department as well. I used to kid around with him mercilessly and he took it all with a sly "screw you" grin. I used to love to look at him and say "I will not tolerate this," and he got the joke.
But Trump's not like that, and Kelly going public with his displeasure...either directly or via the observations of friends and associates...is only going to encourage Trump to "assert his authority" and become an even bigger dick.

(18,837 posts)Only the most loathsome and unqualified toady on the planet would take that job.
I can see Priebus becoming the chief fly-swatter in the Oval Office...that made sense, because from day one of his tenure on the RNC, he was a smarmy little weasel, and Trump just leaned on that until he broke him.
Kelly's a General. If Trump blows a General out the back door, it's going to be Secretary of State Omarosa or Secretary of State Conway or someone of that ilk (and I say that without having a clue regarding the job qualifications, of if Trump actually has to acknowledge that there ARE job qualifications).
But yes, I do not see Kelly leaving of there is even a hint of Trump being able to slime him for being "incapable of doing the job."

(63,221 posts)Trump isn't god, he is an idiotic man-baby who is way in over his head. Why are they so afraid of him? I can't understand why so many people are afraid to stand up to him. He can fire his appointees, but he can't fire elected officials. I would love to hear that SOMEBODY has finally put him in his place.
