Every word out of his mouth (or on Twitter) on Harvey has been self-congratulatory.

Even when he praises the government response, that praise is given in a way to suggest that his actions and support have enabled the work of FEMA, the national guard, and first responders at the state and local level. And that's when he's not talking about his own experiences, or promising to "fix" everything in record time (with the clear suggestion that he's talking about buildings and infrastructure, since you can fix people who have drowned).

Not one word about Americans helping Americans. Nothing about people coming together. Zero about the American spirit and our resourcefulness, or how neighbors are helping neighbors. And he sure as hell isn't going to ask people to sacrifice, or volunteer, or donate. It's all about him and what he's doing to make it all better.

Some day we're going to look back on this period of American history and be really ashamed. That is, if we're not too busy worrying about finding a place to live that's not underwater, or filled with refugees fleeing places that are underwater.

I think a lot of the people comprising his disapproval numbers are people who think that he's just a doofus - but not necessarily a monster.
