(151,557 posts)I guess. The condoms and pregnancy tests are just the thing for your college-bound kids, I'd think. Tell your sons to use the one to prevent other people's daughters from needing the other.
Stock up!

(151,557 posts)Dropping a daughter off at college for her freshman year must be a horror for most dads. I've not had that experience, thank goodness.

(151,557 posts)It is a time of anxiety and dread, I have no doubt.
Contraceptive implants are something to consider. Kids do stuff, and there's little parents can do, really. I'm afraid that if I had an adolescent daughter, that's a discussion we'd be having, I'm sure. I don't, though, and never will, so there is that.

(151,557 posts)often end up being sexually active. It's a natural biological drive, and opportunities abound.
I'm an old guy, but I still remember being a teen. Given enough time and a serious girlfriend or boyfriend, it's almost inevitable, I think. No contraception was available when I was a teen, but that did not prevent sexual activity.
I don't know. It's a real dilemma for parents of teens. I have no good answers, though.

(29,805 posts)...very briefly about making decisions that keep them in charge of who they turn out to be, and not turning that important power over to someone else. I've got it down to about 90 seconds, so I don't get tuned out (I hope).
A couple of years ago, one very personable 17 year old young man listened politely, and then said, I can do better than that. I'll tell you what my dad told me." "Go for it," I said.
His dad's advice - "Stay in school, and wrap your tool." Wise words, and memorable in their brevity and humor.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
