788,000 DACA youth are awaiting their fate this weekend

The 2016 election has direct and ongoing consequences in their lives. It's not old news.
Elections have consequences, and the last one is causing havoc in the lives of millions of Americans.

To those who say they couldn't vote for Clinton because of their principles, I have to question what kind of principles allow them to show such disregard for the lives of the DACA kids. Trump was very clear that he would punish them. He was very clear he would repeal Obamacare, that he would slash environmental and banking regulation, and that he would cut taxes on the rich and corporations. Clinton ran against all of that. The choice couldn't have been clearer.

My principles require that I think about more than myself, that I vote based on the well-being of my community, not just my ego. My community includes not just people who look, speak, pray and love like me but also immigrants, Muslims, people of color, and LGBT Americans. It includes the sick and vulnerable who depend on Obamacare for their survival. I choose to vote for them, not against them.

I hope those who chose to vote against communities like mine think about what their votes contributed to. I hope that when they vote in the future they think about more than themselves and those exactly like them. Without that capacity to think about others there can be no social or economic justice; America will not get better, only worse. Politicians come and go, but community endures. Those DACA kids' lives will be impacted by this election long after Hillary, Bernie, Trump, and Jill Stein have passed on. As far as I'm concerned, their lives matter a hell of a lot more than any politician.

sports "you lost, get over it" "I don't get people who fight over politics". Elections dramatically affect peoples lives. It can cost lives.

Don't tell us to get over something that is hurting us every day.

Great post as usual, Bains Bane

And seeing the Trump sycophants on news programs trying to justify this is equally, if not more, disgusting.

These "kids", and I realize most beneficiaries are now in their early 20's, are tax paying, contributing members of each of our communities. They are scholars, teachers, scientists, and on and on....most have no concept of the country of their birth because they either don't remember or have never been there! They took a gigantic risk in coming out and registering through this program, which, sadly, has no path for citizenship, in order to better their lives and those around them. And now, with the wave of a wand, this "president" can turn his back on that trust and take everything they have fought so hard for away from them. The GOP LOVES to talk about pulling ones self up by their bootstraps....well here you go, you racist pigs! This is the absolute epitome of bettering ones self, and that Trump would shred that through dismantling DACA should tell every person in this country exactly where his heart lies. This isn't about immigration, this is about assaulting the status of intelligent "brown skinned folks" and revoking the few advantages this law provides. It breaks my heart to see this happening, even the threat of it happening. Repeal of DACA would be the epitome of white supremacist, racist ideology that has taken over the right.

And if he does repeal it, it will be to appeal to the racism if his base. It makes no sense economically or in any other way.

I've never seen a Stein voter express any concern about racism, and the white nationalist opposition to immigration has been evident for some time.

He did the same with the Paris agreement -- dragged it out to build anticipation and then made a huge commotion by announcing a pull-out. Worked so well he got himself invited to Paris for Bastille Day. If he was going to renew DACA he would have done it quietly. But I hope I'm wrong.

The lives and future of these young people are hanging by a thread and a racist, bigoted, vengeful child is playing with scissors. Anyone who supported those who espouse that Democrats and republicans are the same should hang their heads in shame for they helped sharpen the blades.

What those young people must be going through. And it was all foreseeable, clear from the campaign.
