... "A Confederacy of Dunces" ... was a picaresque story featuring .. Ignatius Reilly, who, somewhat like .. Trump, was an extremely large, slothful, cranky fellow.

In his recent Trump Tower tirade on Charlottesville, as well as in his later hate-filled campaign rally rant in Phoenix, a very cranky, angry, unmoored, paranoid Trump said, among other things, there were some "very fine people" among the neo-Nazi marchers .. and that his critics were "trying to take away our history and heritage" ...

Trump’s racism dates to at least 1973 when President Nixon’s Justice Department sued Trump and his father, Fred, for systematically discriminating against blacks in housing rentals. The ensuing legal battle produced 1,021 pages of overwhelming evidence that the family real estate firm, of which Donald was then president, had a policy of discriminating against blacks ...

Then came the birther movement, the denunciation of Mexican immigrants as “in many cases, criminals, drug dealers, rapists; ” the effort to ban Muslim immigration; the contention that an American-born judge could not fairly hear a case concerning Trump University because he was of Mexican ancestry, his failure to promptly distance himself from the Ku Klux Klan or reject an endorsement from Klan Grand Wizard David Duke, his bogus claim that 81 percent of white murder victims were killed by blacks (the actual figure is about 15 percent), his retweets of messages from white supremacists including two from an account called@White Genocide TM — one of which included the photo of the American Nazi Party’s founder ...
