Putin claims leading development in weaponized AI will soon be the key to world domination

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin says that whoever reaches a breakthrough in developing artificial intelligence will come to dominate the world.

Putin, speaking Friday at a meeting with students, said the development of AI raises "colossal opportunities and threats that are difficult to predict now."

He warned that "the one who becomes the leader in this sphere will be the ruler of the world."

Putin warned that "it would be strongly undesirable if someone wins a monopolist position" and promised that Russia would be ready to share its know-how in artificial intelligence with other nations.

The Russian leader predicted that future wars will be fought by drones, and "when one party's drones are destroyed by drones of another, it will have no other choice but to surrender."

I have my doubts about his promise to share advanced AI developed by his country though.

Think Trump has any idea what AI is or if he is capable of understanding how it currently and will continue to impact the world?

The "tech" might be helpful in providing a backup in case Russia's attacked, it might defend Russia's friends against the One True Enemy of the day.

I like his paranoia. One thing about paranoia and suspicion is that if it's shared and practiced enough it develops into overt hostility, which in turn produces the enemies it always knew was there, even if they hadn't been or were enemies to such a small extent that they could have been made colleagues.

Good thing our politicians in power don't believe in science.

The world will change more in the next 50 years than the previous 50.

AIs will be the most powerful force ever unleashed and there's no predicting what it will really mean to human kind. But it's naive to think that only altruistic people will control or use AIs.
